ABC1: Think Entertainment

ABC1 has now launched its new branding with channel personalities and the words "Think Entertainment."

ABC1 has now launched its new branding via idents featuring a range of channel personalities.

With the words “Think Entertainment” it includes floating “think” bubbles, upbeat music and playful appearances from Wil Anderson, Adam Hills, Jennifer Byrne, Margaret Pomeranz, David Stratton, Myf Warhurst, Alan Brough, Todd Sampson, Russel Howcroft and Lawrence Leung.

It follows Channel Controller recently telling TV Tonight he wanted to elevate the Entertainment value of ABC1 with audiences.

A new watermark is also now on air with a single “1” above the network lissajous logo.

  1. The No. 1 & surrounds are far too intrusive, particularly with dark colours. I don’t like the fact that the logo can virtually disappear then reappear quite starkly with some colours. Very distracting. The surround to the ‘1’ should be more transparent. The whole thing should be smaller. It would be good if the logo were subliminal. It would still work, as we all know from subliminal advertising, but not be annoying. Or you could take it off altogether. That would be even better.

I strongly disagree about increasing any electronic image. I happen to think smaller is better. So reducing the 1 symbol would be much better but not enlarging the ABC symbol. Frankly just getting rid of them on most shows would be best as I’ve said below.

  3. Too much emphasis on the “1” and not enough on the ABC. There’s so many channels using a 1 or One that it’s confusing for some viewers, especialy the older ones. They should have a big ABc logo with a small “1” next to it.

  4. I hate their new logo on the bottom of the tv screen and I rang and complained today to them and told them I won’t be watching any more because of their new logo. Last night I watched the repeat of Poirot and all I could see was their stupid new logo!

  5. I haven’t seen the ident because I flick from other channels that just aren’t good at ending on time including SBS so far. Therefore can’t say if I like them or not as I’ve never seen them. As for the new watermark I think it’s better because it has less colour ruining the programming. That said that’s like saying which graffiti tag do you prefer i.e. more or less visible? My answer is I’d love it if they got rid of them completely especially on non-news, non-sport and non-current affairs. Basically scripted, documentaries or the like should not have watermarks. Especially childrens shows. They managed to be pristine for over forty years. It’s why ironically analogue will always be better (i.e. in the 20th Century not the 21st). Until they stop ruining digital. How long do we have to wait?
