Nine News Sydney -in Melbourne.

Bug in the system? Nine News in Melboune is having its fair share of technical hiccups lately.

While technical glitches do come with the territory in live News bulletins, Nine News Melbourne has now had three in the last week, most of them resulting in the Sydney bulletin being briefly visible in the southern city.

Last night out of Hot Seat the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Peter Overton’s voice were airing before things quickly switched to Peter Hitchener. On Monday night a story about a funeral was interrupted by an ACA preview with Tracy Grimshaw, then a flick to Overton. There was another hiccup last week.

A Nine spokesperson told TV Tonight, “We work hard 365 days a year to bring Melbourne the best possible News at 6pm. Very occasionally, on-air glitches can occur, as they do on all networks. It’s frustrating, for us and for our loyal viewers. But we want to assure them that we much prefer to focus on covering the news, rather than be in the news for these hiccups.”

Maybe it’s that bloody seagull sitting on the satellite dish.

In the erratic Melbourne market Nine News has been whipping Seven News, but Seven hit back with a win last night.

  1. @Ohyeah what I stated are well known facts by anyone who knows the slightest shred about what the state of tv in Melbourne. 7 network has come out of Docklands for years!

  2. The reality is that ABC(mediahub) has a centralised presentation out at Ingleburn, Sydney; Seven at Docklands, Melbourne; TEN at Pyrmont, Sydney and Nine at Frenchs Forest, Sydney…

    It’s not 1980 anymore….

  3. Perhaps there are ghosts lying about at Bendigo Street? Perhaps Overton is better fitting tha Hitchener. They’re oldy both named Peter! As for 7 in Melbourne It’s also Peter! What next a pumpkin eater!

  4. geez, David…. it’s like you read my post to them on the Facebook page!

Its so ameteur…. i’m finding it quite frustrating. Nine news used to be the best in Australia….

  5. I believe Brisbane still has it’s presentation done locally for now: but I’d say, there will be stuff ups galore when Nine centralises Brisbane, due to the fact QTQ runs two different feeds leading into 6pm, and has done so for over fifteen years.

  6. @ Ohyeah

If Nell has it wrong would you care to elaborate since you seem to know so much?
I support her and add that GTV is going through one of the biggest techincal upgrades possible.
Combined with Presentation moving to Sydney, I doubt this is the last fault we will see. It happened at Seven when they moved to Docklands and when Ten moved to Como.

  7. ohyeah – there are rumours that QTQ9 is about to lose a lot of staff as centralisation to Sydney occurs. I think this was either in Mumbrella or Crikey the other day.

  8. Nine News in Melbourne,is certainly the best.Channel 7 do have there problems and will continue for a long time to come.Reporters and Hosts are ordinary.David Brown always looks very casual never wears a tie wears jeans shirt not tucked in,with a jacket over the top very poor i think

  9. Ha ha – did you see the ABC news last night?
The weather girl had a Snow report as the graphic behind her!
It briefly disappeared and then came back again as she quickly gabbled her way through today’s forecast weather.
Normally there’s not enough time to actually read their detailed weather maps and forecasts, but at least they usually manage to show them!
I’ve been told that the ABC saves money by computerising the news and graphics so they don’t have to pay technical staff wages – but it all goes to hell when there’s a technical hitch.
So ch 9, you’re in good company!

  10. Similar things happen in Brisbane when they cut away to the RBA interest rate decision live. After the segment, it returns to Days of our Lives but seeing as Qld is one hour behind, after a few seconds it returns to The View. Nine seem to have more of these technical glitches, however Sunrise had issues with their clock in Brisbane when we were getting the show live during the floods/cyclone, the clock would sometimes be AEDT other times AEST.

  11. This happens all the time with regional NSW networks showing the metro NSW channel for a second before changing over. Prime is one of the worst. Often when they do the Prime Weather, they then fade out and then you see Seven Weather flash for a second before seeing whatever is supposed to be on after it.
