Singer Christina Aguilera has joined the judging panel of America’s next TV talent show, The Voice.
The Dutch format is being produced by Mark Burnett who also signed Cee-Lo Green, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine. Carson Daly is the show’s host.
The Voice differs from other singing formats when contestants are auditioned on vocal skills alone. Judges won’t be able to see the acts they are selecting.
“The way that Mark sold me on doing the show is not only the concept, but the fact that this isn’t about tearing people down, making fun of them or picking them apart in a negative way,” said Aguilera.
“I love that I get to sit with my back turned away and use one sense alone: to hear these voices,” said Aguilera.
“I’m looking forward to being moved. I’m not looking for vocal acrobatics or who has the biggest range from high to low. You have to sing with your heart, not your head. That’s what I want to tell these contestants. At the end of the day, that’s what The Voice is really about — emotion and touching people.”
The NBC show, which deos not yet have an Australian channel, will have its work cut out. American Idol is still firing in its tenth season -even without Simon Cowell.

@Todd : But her music she chooses to use that voice on is vapid and generic beyond words. Honestly – her songs are indistinguishable from the slurry of similar slut-pop “artists”.
How anyone could say Christina is not talented is beyond me… she has a freakin amazing voice!! Sometimes her voice can get a bit out of control, but to say she’s not talented is just plain ludicrous!
The talentless judging the talentless. Like…yay.
At first glance i thought that this was just another boring singing contest and that this genre of Tv had been done. Then i read on and that the voices will be judged not the contestants made me think that this show might have a future. If you are a pure musician you will like this.

Isn’t using Christina Aguilera and the word ‘talent’ in the same sentence an oxymoron?
