Chris Lilley keeps cards up his sleeve

Angry Boys has a subtle format change to Chris Lilley's earlier work.

When it debuts in May, Angry Boys will mark the return of Chris Lilley’s amazing skills at social observation and characterisation.

But there is a subtle format change this time round.

Unlike We Can Be Heroes and Summer Heights High, not all the characters appear in all the episodes.

The first episode will focus on the twins from Dunt, Daniel and Nathan.

Ruth Sims, who works at the Juvenile Justice Centre for Boys, also features prominently.

In fact even by the end of episode two not all characters will have been revealed.

Together with the enormous secrecy that has enveloped the series so far, it’s indicative of an artist who has a master plan for his work. And there’s nothing so wrong with that…

  1. I don’t think this show will be as good as his other ones.
The Asian mother is a cringe-worthy character and the prison guard seems to be just a ramped up Mr G.
I doubt this will do well overseas ans I doubt it will be as smart as anything he’s done before.

  2. Well this isn’t too surprising. Also unlike his other two shows some of tue characters are connected and mentioned in other characters stories and a few are set in the US. And that’s just what I got from the trailer.

  3. I love his integrity, professionalism, vision, originality, confidence in what he is doing. Like you said he is a true artist. There aren’t that many in any creative profession these days that can work the way he has / does. He’s a true inspiration.
