Nine set to replace Two and a Half Men with Big Bang Theory

After trialling Big Bang Theory at 7pm weeknights in Brissy, Nine is poised to extend the plan to other cities.

Channel Nine is finally set to dump Two and a Half Men from the 7pm slot in favour of The Big Bang Theory.

It has been trialling the plan in Brisbane for several weeks.

The Sunday Herald Sun reports its about to extend it to other cities.

Numbers for the Charlie Sheen sitcom had already been on the slide before his recent outburst caused him to be axed from the show.

But don’t count a complete erase from Sheen from our screens just yet. He could still be wearing his bowling shirts ad nauseum on GO!

  1. 2012 now and instead of Karl and Leila with a news/chat show like it should be they are still flogging off this off as suitable 7pm material.Shameful I say.Soon people will get fed up and find other alternatives. The Library with good books that opens till 8 or 9pm is one of many options,A late night bookstore that opens till 10pm is another excellent choice.

  2. I think a while back before the Geeks came along and now the Block there was talk of Karl Stefanovic creating a News Variety show at 7pm with Leila McKinnon to replace 2.5 men and Nine’s woes at that time of night.I would so like that to make it real and besides they need something long term that isn’t reality TV and American Sitcoms no matter how much cheaper they are to bring in are not the answer.

  3. Just bring back temptation with Ed Phillips and be done with it.I can’t believe they dumped a sensible intelligent game show for This 2.5 men garbage. What I find more insulting is now you can buy the box sets of them at your local Kmart.

  4. Why not All Together Now shown again from the start for the generation who didn’t get to see it the first time around or My Two Wives.

Much like the last few years of 2.5 men at Nine It doesn’t cost them much if anything and the home grown shows are better than Charlie Sheen

  5. Youtune has 35 hours of new content every minute. Maybe Nine should show a clips show in that time slot (kinda like Funniest Home Videos – youtube edition).

BTW: I’m only half serious 🙂

  6. Big Bang is a great comedy that Nine, if people might care to remember, rejected and axed after three episodes, causing most early fans of the show to, err, never watch it on Nine again 😉

It only has four seasons, though – the fourth is still in progress in the US – so Nine will likely go from hating this show to making people hate this show. No wonder I hardly bother with FTA TV any more.

  7. Yes!!!!

Finally channel 9 can see the light!!!

“The Big Bang Theory” is a really good show!!!

Charlie Sheen is just a sad individual who needs help!!!!

  8. Why not with New Hosts and a New Set Bring Back The Price is Right and dump all these overdone US Sitcoms into the 5:30pm timeslot leading into the News.
Even with BBT You will get eaten alive nine by Home and Away and 7pm Project so this may only work short term.

  9. @ Goonies, I agree, playing Big Bang in chronological order from the first episode would be terrific. Though, I doubt it will happen nine seems to have a habit of over playing a handful of episodes in mixed order over and over again. It would be much more enticing to be able to watch the sitcom in order and I think that maybe doing that would get more viewers.

  10. 9News at 7pm. It’s the only answer, unless you put a gameshow like millionaire or create a rival variety show like 7pm.
People can not handle monthly repeats of the same episode of the same show. With the exception of The Simpsons and some other classics. These programs are far from that status.

  11. The way 9 in Sydney has been promoting Two and a Halfwit in recent weeks is absolutely deplorable.

Making fun of Sheen’s obvious breakdown was unnecessary.

  12. There are obviously a lot of people-meter owners on auto-pilot early in the evening, while they eat their dinner or whatever. They can’t actually be watching these shows for the fourth or fifth time can they?

  13. nines idea of programming when you have a sucessfull show repeat it to death untill people get sick of the seeing the same episodes oever and over again that the shows no longer rates ie top gear 2/12 men ramsey and now TBBT

  14. Urgh, Nine better come up with a plan quick smart; I like big bang but theres only a quarter of the episodes available meaning people are going to tire of it a hell of a lot quicker – primetime hotseat would be the best option at the moment I think.

  15. Why don’t Nine think of a long-term solution for 7pm, rather than a short-term fix? The Big Bang Theory already plays way too much, I used to like this show but now I’m sick of it, how people can watch the same episodes over and over again on Nine and GO! is beyond me. They can’t just be reilant on comedies fixing their schedule. Ten took a chance and started The 7pm Project and while in the short-term was not good for them, it’s now pretty stable in the ratings.

  16. Two and a Half Men bores me now and not just the re-runs, I can’t even be bothered watching the few remaining new eps they have left.

The Big Bang Theory is the future, the geeks will inherit it time slot!
