New Aussie film Snowtown has been numbing some preview audiences due to its realism -but what will David and Margaret think?
OCEANS – Filmmakers Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzard. An ecological drama/documentary, filmed throughout the globe. Part thriller, part meditation on the vanishing wonders of the sub-aquatic world. Narrated by Pierce Brosnan. It airs 10pm Wednesday on ABC1.
GET LOW – starring Robert Duvall, Sissy Spacek, Bill Murray. A movie spun out of equal parts folk tale, fable and real-life legend about the mysterious, 1930s Tennessee hermit who famously threw his own rollicking funeral party… while he was still alive
OF GODS AND MEN – Under threat by fundamentalist terrorists, a group of Trappist monks stationed with an impoverished Algerian community must decide whether to leave or stay.
SNOWTOWN – Directed by Justin Kurzel and stars Daniel Henshall and Lucas Pittaway. Australian movie based on of Australia’s worst serial killings – the bodies in the barrels murders.
DVD CLASSIC: David reviews one of his favourite films, SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN (1952), starring Gene Kelly Debbie Reynolds and Donald O’Connor.
It airs 10pm Wednesday on ABC1.

@The Dueling Cavalier: I don’t think the format matters at all. As a matter of fact, I think they’re just calling their segment ‘The Classic’ now.
I can’t believe they are still reviewing DVDs. Why not Blu-ray and comment on the bright new prints, etc. of classics such as Singin’ in the Rain?
There’s been screenings for critics of Pirates 4 in Aus already.
I do find the movie show is completely missing a lot of releases these days. If they can’t get a screening before the release they should when it’s released.
@Sydney2k: Empire in the UK gave it 2 &1/2 stars, ouch.
Hmmmm… obviously no preview showing of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
Would love to see Snowtown but i don’t think I could sit through it. I’m from Adelaide’s north so it’s too close to home. Far too confronting, much like Balibo, seen it once, great film, but i won’t be able to watch it ever again.
Singin in the Rain…good choice David.
I’m looking forward to Snowtown – it’s a tough subject and I don’t have a strong stomach – but it sounds like it has been made quite well. Definitely interested in what David & Margret have to say about it.
