FOX Sports to live stream ‘Hybrid’ rugby match

FOX Sports will provide a live stream of Wednesday’s ‘hybrid’ rugby match, using a combination of rules from rugby union and rugby league, between St Augustine’s College (Sydney) and Keebra Park High School (Gold Coast) from Brookvale Oval.

The stream will feature a single camera view without commentary to provide a basic coverage of the action.

Jon Marquard, FOX Sports Chief Operating Officer, said, “This is a concept that has been tossed up for a number of years and fans of both codes would love to one day see a genuine hybrid rules match between the Wallabies and Kangaroos.

“Wednesday’s schoolboy trial of the hybrid rules has attracted interest from as far abroad as the UK and there will be plenty of fans that will be curious to see the match that won’t be able to get to Manly to watch it in person. What we are providing is a very basic live stream of the match to enable all fans to watch it online from their home or office.”

The live stream on www.foxsports.com.au will commence at approximately 7pm AEST this Wednesday 11 May.

More information on the match can be found on the FOX Sports website

  1. A ridiculous idea. The NRL is about to sign a billion dollar TV deal while the ARU withers and dies. On top of that, the national schoolboys union competition is won by a Rugby League school that goes out of its way to not practice playing union…..and they still win. Unbeaten! So take this stupid game with stupid rules and bin it.

  2. The rules sound like a complete shemozzle and it’s not really a ‘hybrid’ but I might have a look at it. The idea that the ARL or ARU would ever dilute the Kangaroos or Wallabies brands by allowing them to play a nonsense match like the one Marquard envisions is ludicrous though.
