Katie Couric has now ended her 5 year stint as anchor of CBS Evening News.

During a recent interview she suggested that she was looking forward to “doing what I do what I do best, interacting with people, interviewing people and having sort of more extended conversations.”

There is now speculation that Couric has reached a deal with ABC for a syndication talk show, which CBS has the right to match.

  1. I think Katies finest moment was when she did that interview with Sarah Palin and made her look like a fool. She asked Sarah questions and she didnt know how to answer them.

  2. The fetishisation of American news readers never ceases to amaze me. They get paid millions a year to read stories others have written off a teleprompter (and look pretty in the case of the females). Their ups, downs and nightly performances are endlessly debated in the press, magazines and on the net as if they are of great significance. It’s utterly bizarre.

  3. All US network news viewer numbers are heading south, just a sign of the times in a country that has vast slabs of the population that are engrossed with dribble like Schwarzenegger and Sheens escapades but would find it just about impossible to find Libya,Iraq or Afghanistan on a map.

  4. She is leaving CBS evening news because she failed to lift said news from 3rd position -as she inherited it- 5 years ago. Would have been a bit of a culture shock as she was accustomed to being number 1 at NBC Today for all the years she co hosted, first with Bryant Gumball, then with Matt Lauer.

  5. Blimey – that flew by quick! A few years ago I dropped by to be one of the gurning muppets in the NBC Today Show audience, dancing away to (the late) Robert Palmer with my mates. She came out and had a chat with the audience and was quite lovely.
