Bert Newton out of hospital

Bert Newton has been discharged from Epworth Hospital after being treated for pneumonia.

Good news with Bert ‘Moonface’ Newton, 72, discharged from Epworth Hospital yesterday after being treated for pneumonia.

The TV legend is due to spend a week recuperating with family, but is itching to get back to work on Wicked, currently being staged in Perth.

”I’m much better today than I was two weeks ago,” he said.

”The time spent here has been so worthwhile and I’m looking forward to getting back to work – I’m not a very happy person when I’m not working.’

“It came as a bit of a shock, especially when you enjoy good health, which I have done.

“But so long as I do my best, the doctors tell me do exactly what they say, and I’ll be back on stage very very soon.”

However the “wake-up call” hadn’t prompted any talk of calling it quits by the man who is addicted to performing.

“It’s the old story. What I do, I don’t see as a job, I see it as something I love doing and it’s a very important part of my life.

“If I didn’t have my family and work, I couldn’t imagine life,” he said.

  1. Thrilled he is doing ok – our last living legend from that era of variety stars. Bert is as the Cole Porter song goes – “he’s the top….he’s the colosseum”. There’s plenty of life left in him yet.
