Secret Sunrise plan: Kochie + Mel + ?

Sunrise has proposed adding a permanent third host to the breakfast show, according to media reports today.

Sunrise Executive Producer Michael Pell has proposed adding a permanent third host to the Seven breakfast show, according to media reports today.

The Australian reports Seven chief executive David Leckie and news chief Peter Meakin have not yet accepted the ‘secret strategy’ fearing it is too radical.

There are no indications if the plan was to feature a current member of the Sunrise family, such as Natalie Barr.

The proposal comes at a time when Sunrise‘s ratings have taken a hit, especially in the Sydney market.

Two weeks ago the show lost the week to Today  by 4,000 viewers nationally. Last week it won with 352,000 to Nine’s 349,000 but still trailed in Sydney and Melbourne.

Both shows are also planning broadcasts from New York later this year.

Seven is believed to have commissioned audience research on the popularity of Mel and Kochie (just 10 votes split the rival teams in a recent TV Tonight poll, in Nine’s favour).

  1. @TvScene. Wouldn’t work because of the ‘ Larry and Kylie’ brand. Why not just put Mangos on Sunrise ?

Where did you hear the rumour from? I’m a media issues fanatic 😀

  2. Strong rumour heard yesterday suggests a possible John Mangos return to Seven fronting The Morning Show with Kylie Gillies, freeing up Larry Emdur to inject some life into Sunrise. Mangos has previously enjoyed the morning slot on Seven years back with ‘At Home with John Mangos’.

  3. I would just wish they would stop mucking around with this show. Every so often they “redo” the set then you have to follow around your favourite segments. I used to love “Joke of the day” but apparently it has been banned.

Overall I am sick of current affairs shows this year with the bombardment of news on the same topic. No offence to the flood victims but we heard about that stuff for over three days, then we had some other disaster. News was never like that before.
