  1. Surely David is allowed to post whatever he likes here? I think this particular article is relevant anyway, but even if it wasn’t, it’s David’s blog and he can publish what he likes on it. If people don’t like it, they don’t need to read that particular article. If anyone who posts here were capable of running a better site, they’d be doing it. Kudos to David for covering every issue that relates to the industry!

  2. @Jezza

” Surely the more important issue, is that in many countries around the world, just being gay will land you the death penalty or prison.”

And what are you doing to make a difference?

  3. @Jezza – It’s a bit different, but it still suites a website about television as the article the story is based on is a television icon NPH. At the end of the article it also states “Meanwhile, Compass has two episodes on Gay Marriage July 3rd and 10th on ABC1”. Well at least TVTonight is covering the story, a few months ago news services weren’t even screening any story on the ‘Kill the Gay’s’ bill that was to be introduced in Uganda, making it the first country where homosexuals would be sent to death, along with people infected with AIDs (straight and gay).

  4. For those of you interested in supporting the right for gay marriage in Australia, you can go to australianmarriageequality.com. Everyone is welcome to join in the fight for change.

  5. This is terrific! Thank you David for posting the story here as this is the only news website I read (and I do not watch any news programming either). Come on Australia and get the ball rolling!! So far the U.S. has only got it legal in a couple of states, so lets start with one and go from there! If I’m not mistaken there was news last week that Victoria had got one step closer!

Nah I don’t think it was relevant to this site at all. When people get engaged/ married whether they are straight or gay its irrelevant to a TV news website, as is the change to a law in a foreign country. I think when a well known star passes away, quits a show or suffers some sort of vilification, then may be it would be appropriate.

That aside, the debate surrounding gay marriage is a very narrow one, people are either for or against it and the debate about that belongs on a news or political website. Surely the more important issue, is that in many countries around the world, just being gay will land you the death penalty or prison.

  7. Good news. I think they’re the 7th US state (if you count DC) to take this progressive step altho’ the Federal Govt hasn’t yet done so. I wonder which Aussie state will be the first? South Australia has a history of conferring rights (and equal rights) to its populace before the other states.

  8. It’s odd how we often see the USA as really conservative compared to Australia. Yet in some places they are way more progressive than us.

  9. I guess I could have written about the supposed backstage fights at DWTS but call me cynical, when it’s published on a Sunday I just didn’t buy it. I started to write this story based on NPH getting engaged, which I felt was very newsworthy. By the time I had finished researching I realised some of the US media got it wrong, he hadn’t gotten engaged yesterday. But in the light of Compass putting it on the table next week I think it’s still a relevant story to see how others are tackling the debate, especially where stars add their voice.

  10. @Jezza, I think it’s relevant enough.

This is huge news for gay rights, probably the most high-profile legalization to date. There has been a halo effect on the world with every advance. Will be interesting to see what effect new York has.

  11. TV stars of all persuasions, coming out to support a major break through in civil liberties is news. Good on you David for publishing this item.

  12. @Jezza – it’s like when there is an article about someone dying, it’s about someone from the TV industry. I believe Neil Patrick is from the TV industry?

  13. Very good news, even though it seems to be shoe-horned into a TV news-related site with some tenuous links to people who, I guess, have appeared on a TV in one way or another 😀
