MasterChef finale, Renovators update

TEN has now revealed its plans for the finale of MasterChef Australia next Sunday night.

TEN has now revealed its plans for the finale of MasterChef Australia next Sunday night.

The event will be split across the night at 6:30 and 8:30, with Renovators sandwiched in between.

Sunday August 7
6:30pm MasterChef Australia: Finale Night
Tonight the remaining two contestants enter the kitchen for the final food fight. Three epic challenges stand between them and being crowned Australia’s MasterChef for 2011!

7:30pm Renovators
One team’s head renovator has been eliminated, which means there’s now a set of keys up for grabs. To be in the running, contestants must first lay a brick wall, then win another white room challenge.

8:30pm MasterChef Australia: Winner Announced
The pantry is closed, the ovens are off, the benches have been wiped down and the judges have cast their votes. The wait is over. Who will be Australia’s next MasterChef?

9:30pm Class Of 2011: First Look
9:35pm Movie: Tropic Thunder rpt

Interestingly The Renovators is titled simply as Renovators in network amendments -it may be an oversight.

Matt Preston has previously mentioned the announcement of the winner would be live, but there is no indication of this and TEN has previously filmed this segment on the afternoon of the show. It’s understood the final two have already cooked their dishes for the cameras. There is also a big surprise being kept under wraps.

From Monday August 8 – Friday August 12 Renovators airs at 7:30pm, one hour on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Half hour on Tuesday and Thursday. The Friday edition is billed as a “How To” episode.

A reminder that this week TV Tonight will be publishing live elimination results AEST.

  1. I think this is a huge mistake by Channel 10. They will lose people while The Renovators is on, and the Winner Announced will be well down on last year’s figures.

  2. Not real sure split MC will work
Hope renovators lasts or put on at 6.00
time will tell as the production values has been very high and the rooms look great.

  3. How silly

Why not put the Renovators up against the The Block since we’ve seen it can hold it’s audience against most competition provided by other networks. That way MC can start at 7.30 and carry TEN through the rest of the night.

Which dim light thought of this at the programming dept??

    1. Class of… is an observational series about a class of students who underperform and are guided to a kind of educational glory. Supposedly a feelgood show about underdogs who triumph. Aussie version of a Scandinavian format. Might be being primed for the Sunday 6:30 slot? As always if you click on the show’s Tag you’ll read about it in other stories.

  4. I’m only watching The Renovators so it doesn’t bother me. David, there must be some miscommunication going on between departments at Ten because the first episode of The Renovators had title supers of “Renovators”, but from night 2 it changed to “The Renovators”. My EPG has listed it as “Renovators” every night, but I don’t think it’s the official Freeview one. You’d think the branding would be important to Ten, especially since it’s a new show.

  5. In the last two years, Ten has launched new programs after the MasterChef finale to great success (Glee pilot episode in 2009 and Undercover Boss last year). I think it is a great opportunity wasted to only show a sneak peek of Class Of after the finale this year. Also, it is risky to start the finale at 6.30pm as it means going head to head against the high-rating room reveal episode of The Block. Ten may yet win the night but the ratings for MC finale won’t be as high as the past two seasons.

  6. I hope this falls flat for them. My family want to sit down and watch the final; not have to watch a show we don’t want to watch in the middle. Sorry TEN we have no interest in the Renovators, this is like parents saying sit there and eat your vegetables before you have your dessert.

It is often commented on this site that the other two major players are the ones that play games; take note of this!!
