The Ship Song
Nick Cave
A song Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds released in 1990 has been championed by the Sydney Opera House to celebrate the artists, architecture and interiors that help make Sydney Opera House such an icon.
A music video of The Ship Song by music video director Paul Goldman and music director and arranger Elliott Wheeler features such performers as Neil Finn, Kev Carmody, Sarah Blasko, Angus and Julia Stone, Paul Kelly, Temper Trap, Martha Wainwright, Katie Noonan, Teddy Tahu Rhodes and Daniel Johns. They are joined by the Sydney Symphony, Opera Australia, The Australian Ballet, Bangarra Dance Theatre, Bell Shakespeare Company and the Australian Chamber Orchestra.
Sydney Opera House CEO Richard Evans said, “We set out to create a tribute to the House’s role in the global creative community – a love song to creativity if you wish. We wanted to give people everywhere the opportunity to experience the creative genius that makes this place tick, to get a taste of the artists, venues and other spaces that power the heart that beats beneath our soaring white sails.”
A documentary about the project narrated by Guy Pearce, was filmed over 12 months by filmmaker Greg Appel and will screen on STVDIO:
Thursday 11th of August at 7pm
Sunday 14th of August at 10.30pm
Tuesday 16th of August at 12.30pm
Wednesday 24th of August at 5pm
Saturday 27th of August at 11.30pm
The documentary can also be viewed on the Sydney Opera House website.

Absolutely adore this.
I was kind of hoping this would be about a new Ship to Shore series!
Nick Cave’s songs always remind me of Benny Hill’s songs without the humour.
One of Cave’s finest songs! 🙂
Beautiful.
