On Monday night ABC1 plays a documentary about what it took to locate and ultimately kill Osama Bin Laden.

The 90 minute doco includes re-enactments and interviews with Barack Obama.

There’s an interesting moment where Obama is guest at a CNN foreign correspondents roast where comedians crack jokes about finding Bin Laden. With the timeline now explained it’s clear that Obama played along with the comedy, having already authorised Navy SEALS to take him out.

Another fascinating moment reveals that in order not to alert press to their activities, the White House ordered pizzas from numerous pizza outlets during their long nights of planning. It seems ordering multiple pizzas from one supplier is a sure way to alert media to “something going down at the White House.”

Targeting Bin Laden is produced by the History Channel in the US.

On 1 May 2011, the White House announced that Osama Bin Laden had been shot dead by US Navy SEALS in a house in the town of Abbottabad, Pakistan. The man who had eluded US forces for so long, the man responsible for masterminding the September 11 attacks on New York and the Pentagon, had been found.

Finding Bin Laden was one of Barak Obama’s key election promises, and in this program he gives an exclusive interview about the operation for the first time.

Key players in the US Government also speak – including America’s National Security Advisor Tom Donilon and the White House Chief Counter-Terrorism Advisor John O. Brennan – as well as members of Congress, policy experts and others. They discuss the mission in vivid detail, revealing what really happened in the nerve-wracking days and hours leading up to the event.

Rigorously researched and based on high-level White House and CIA briefings, the program moves from the US Navy SEALS as they approach Bin Laden’s home in Abbottabad to the meeting rooms in Washington and the army base in Afghanistan.

Targeting Bin Laden offers the most complete picture of this top-secret mission currently available.

8:30pm Monday, 14 November on ABC1.

  1. If Bin Laden died several years back , as former Pakistani leader Benazir Bhutto revealed to legendary TV interviewer David Frost, youtube.com/watch?v=SDTEEXG3ge8 (in a statement which could have been the reason she was assassinated, because it meant many of us weren’t all still living in fear!) then I doubt this documentary is going to have much truth to it at all… but it should certainly make fascinatin viewing to see the “story” unfold… As with everything in life, the truth eventually will come out.

  2. They also repeat it later that same night or technically early morning at around 12.30am Tuesday morning. Which causes a clash with Chuck so I won’t be able to see it all. I really wish they can repeat it some other day. Otherwise I’ll miss it and I didn’t want to. As I said in the lounge if only it could of been repeated 11.30+ pm Tuesday like Four Corners or even 12.30am Wednesday. There’s also the weekend in the afternoons or very late at night or early morning. I’d love to see it. But it’s improbable at the moment.
