Former Packed to the Rafters series producer Jo Porter has been confirmed as Head of Drama for FremantleMedia Australia.

Porter was tipped for the role when she left the Seven stable in September and today The Australian notes Porter will collaborate with Fremantle’s international drama team.

FMA boss Ian Hogg says, “We’ve got a confident, mature business in all things non-drama and we think we can get into that space and invest more aggressively and make sure the business is organised to take on hourly drama commissions.”

Porter’s other credits include All Saints and Always Greener. The second half of 2011 has seen considerable change amongst industry Drama execs including Southern Star’s Julie McGauran joining Seven, Jo Horsburgh exiting Nine and Seven’s John Holmes relinquishing the day-to-day running of the network’s Drama slate.

Hogg added, “I have a dream that FMA will again dominate Australian drama production and export our stories and culture to the world stage.

“I can think of nobody better than Jo to lead this expansion.”

  1. FremantleMedia is death to drama. They dumbed down or killed off the dramas they inherited from the Grundy days and they haven’t managed to produce anything of worth since. The place is a black hole for creativity. Good luck, Jo.
