It was great to see Pete Smith as a guest on The Joy of Sets last night.
The episode looked at some of TV’s biggest mistakes and blunders, but having the veteran Smith in the chair was no mistake.
As “Nine’s longest serving employee” he showed he could still fire off the punchlines, chatting about both the golden days of TV (Graham Kennedy) and current programmes (the Sunrise cash cow).
He also managed to chuck in references to Sale of the Century and CopperArt -but of course!
Ed Kavalee and Tony Martin were busy chuckling at Smith’s repartee, along with the rest of us.

Pete Smith is such a great talent. It’s a shame he’s so often overlooked with stuff like the Logies hall of fame. I was very pleased to see him on JoS last night.
Oh dear, I forgot about this show. Nine needs to promote it more.
I must say.The Joy of Set has improved in the past 4 weeks since i have watched. Pete Smith was hilarious.
He even got a “Commish” reference in! 😀
Is this show anywhere online to watch?
loved when he said to Ed, Give me that you little b@#$tard !!!
true gentleman.
Yes, AS’s joke was hilarious…when it was used by about fifty different people in reference to MTR’s ratings, months ago.
I loved when he did the voice overs for the prizes on Micaleff Tonight 🙂
Pete Smith for the hall of fame at next years logies.
Pete Smith is a god!
If I’d known he was going to be on, I would have watched.
@AS – very Zen. Your joke was both amusing and not amusing.
He is my idol !
It was good to see him on the show, Pete Smith has great vocal talent.
Long overdue – Pete Smith for Logies Hall of Fame! Would be the only reason I’d watch next year!
“Dude looks like a Logie!”
The man is a dead set legend.
Bloody Hell , i missed it last night.
Pete is a champ. I loved his work on ‘The Nation’ as well, which suffered the Mick Molloy curse and got canned.
If Pete Smith is on The Joy of Sets and nobody is there to watch it, is he actually on The Joy of Sets?
Great episode. Love Pete Smith. A true gentleman. And oh so witty and funny, could always hold his own.
