Newton-directed movie on Nine

Nine screens Three Blind Mice, the movie Matthew Newton wrote and directed that won him critical praise.

He’s had a shocking year in the headlines, but tonight Matthew Newton’s talents are in the spotlight with Nine screening the 2008 movie he wrote and directed, Three Blind Mice.

Newton features as one of the three leads, alongside Toby Schmitz and Ewen Leslie.

Others in the cast include Gracie Otto, Alex Dimitriades, Marcus Graham, Pia Miranda, Barry Otto, Heather Mitchell, Jacki Weaver, Tina Bursill, Brendan Cowell and Charles Tingwell. Music by John Foreman.

Newton attracted strong reviews for his directorial debut and the independent film has played in a number of film festivals around the world.

It will probably prove to be a curiosity piece for those willing to see what Newton is capable of when other factors are not at play.

Three young Navy officers hit Sydney for one last night on land before being shipped over to the Gulf to fight. Sam has been mistreated at sea and is going AWOL, Dean has a fiance and the future in-laws to meet, and Harry just loves playing cards. Throughout the night the boys lose each other, find themselves, and along the way discover courage, friendship and redemption.

9:30pm Friday on Nine.

  1. I didn’t watch this movie but somewhat coincidentally I just watched the Danger Man episode The Affair at Castelevara with the commentary from guest star Bud Tingwell and he was talking about his career overall including working on the said movie.

  2. Matthew Newton’s personal life is none of my business.
I do however admire his acting and will be interested in seeing this program.
Oops it’s on nine, so I’ll have to record it….
