Nine News logo switch in Perth

What should we make of Nine's new logo for its Perth news bulletin?

What should we make of Nine’s new logo for its Perth news bulletin?

In the last few days it switched from blue to red and dropped the famous 9 dots.

Is it a sign of more changes for Bruce Gordon’s WIN Network?

WIN was yet to clarify after being asked by TV Tonight.

  1. Let’s not forget the last time things like this were happening was during the Great WIN Vs Nine War of 2007, mainly over affiliation fees paid to Nine. That was settled as a five year agreement, so we must be close to the expiry date now? With Nine Co’s well documented debt woes biting they must be attempting to squeeze WIN Corp for more dough.

This could be the first shot in another war between the former friendly networks?

  2. They already did this a few years ago, and then changed it back.

If you ask me, the entire Nine network should change its logo forever. It’s now over thirty years old, and is really showing it…

  3. Looks like a cheap sticker to me. What are the laws if he buys the rest of 9. Will he be able to keep his regional stations. I thought you can own a certain percentage of the market. Will be interesting.

  4. Would be more modern to go with the 9 dots only and drop the number 9.

Am sure ‘ol boy Bruce would love to buy the east coast Nine stations, but alas, until the current laws change which limit any single company from owning stations/licences to 85% national audience reach coverage, it is not going to happen. ‘ol boy Bruce would have to sell all his regional licences first except for WIN QLD if he were to buy up TCN, GTV, QTQ, NTD to join with STW and NWS.

  5. Maybe WIN is gearing up to purchase Channel 9 outright. I mean the debt collectors or should i say the banks look likely not to give CVC a reprieve on the debt so it is a huge possibility. Imagine that. Nine rebranded WIN across Australia.

  6. @P – I’m not sure how the 9 looks ‘more modern’ without the dots. The figure 9 looks like it was inspired by a calculator. Remember those? That, to me, is what makes it look very dated. The dots, on the other hand, could be rehashed/tweaked into a new logo which still says “nine” in essence.

  7. Boo hoo get over it. Regional Australia has put up with this crap since 2006. Wait unit they start covering up the dotty on the national news and Today. Considering the WIN logo has been making a few appearances, I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a re-brand on the way… that’s when you will really get the full effect.
