SBS repeats Go Back to Where You Came From

If you didn't get to see this during the year, here's an excellent opportunity to catch up with this remarkable social experiment.

This Tuesday night, SBS replays its acclaimed documentary series Go Back to Where You Came From.

If you didn’t get to see this during the year, here’s an excellent opportunity to catch up with this remarkable social experiment.

The three part series topped the Documentary choices in the recent Critics’ Choice awards on this site, as well as at the recent SPAA Conference. You’ll be waiting a long time to see another Doco like this one again.

Highly recommended.

Go Back To Where You Came From follows six ordinary Australians, of varying ages and backgrounds, who agree to challenge their preconceived notions about refugees and asylum seekers by embarking on a confronting 25 day journey. Tracing in reverse the journeys that refugees have taken to reach Australia, the series features unprecedented access to some of the most dangerous and desperate corners of the world.

Deprived of their wallets, phones and passports, the participants board a leaky refugee boat, are rescued mid-ocean, experience immigration raids in Malaysia, witness sheer desperation in Kenyan refugee camps and visit slums in Jordan, before ultimately making it to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Iraq, protected by UN Peacekeepers and the US military. For some of the Australians it’s their first time abroad. For all of them, it’s an epic journey and the most challenging experience of their lives.

8:30pm Tuesday December 6th on SBS ONE.

  1. I might watch this because they are just advertisng it normally with no horrible electronic graffiti ruining all their other programs. I was always interested in it. The ads alone are all they need as well as good scheduling. Which looks great so far. So unless the ABC or a commercial channel surprises with something. Then I’ll finally get to see it. I’m glad. Thank you. It looks like an excellent eye opener.

  2. David, it’s a shame there wasn’t an exclusive (and compulsory) screening for delegates at the ALP National Conference before Minister Bowen spoke.

  3. Watched it first time around, the best thing i’ve seen on tv. It totally changed my view on boat people.

Hope SBS will make another doco like this one.
