StarPics refreshes with movie awards

StarPics refreshes as Pay TV's home of the BAFTAs, Critics' Choice Movie Awards, AACTA Awards and Academy Awards.

From today StarPics refreshes as a channel offering broadcasts of major film award ceremonies.

Beginning with the 2011 BAFTA LA Britannia Awards this month, next year it will also offer viewers the The 17th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, the Inaugural AACTA Awards, 2012 BAFTA Awards and the The 84th Academy Awards.

Peter Jenetsky, General Manager of Content Strategy and Marketing for Movie Network Channels says: “Development and refinement of the StarPics channel brand is an opportunity to highlight the true uniqueness of the channel offering and further differentiating the Movie Network Channels package, whilst promoting StarPics as the destination for all things Hollywood and audience’s connection to the big stars.

“We are again led creatively by the talented team at Tactic Creative Services and are extremely thrilled with all on air and marketing elements that signify the evolution of the StarPics brand.”

The channel will continue to screen back to back double, triple and movie marathon features, celebrity news, Movie Juice, Premiere and Movie Star Bios.

The exciting channel refresh comes at a perfect time in the lead up to the huge summer awards season. StarPics will bring the glitz and glamour from some of the biggest awards shows to screens and will be available to audiences in HD, starting with the 2011 BAFTA LA Britannia Awards on 17 December 2011 at 6.30pm hosted by Alan Cumming and featuring appearances from celebrities such as Ben Stiller, Helena Bonham-Carter and more.

The 17th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards will broadcast Live on StarPics on 13 January 2012 from 1pm with coverage of the red carpet and access to celebrities Live from 12 noon.

Australia’s Inaugural Samsung AACTA Awards* will broadcast on 4 February 2012, with Movie Extra’s own Small Time Gangster nominated for the AACTA AWARD for Best direction in Television.

On 13 February 2012, StarPics will screen the 2012 BAFTA Awards** with a special pre-show and red carpet access to celebrity interviews.

Finally, StarPics will present the only Live HD telecast of the 84th Academy Awards®**, on 27 February 2012 from the Kodak Theatre. Subscription Television audiences will have front row access to all the celebrity fashion and glamour with a red carpet arrivals show prior to the awards ceremony from 10.00am.

  1. I agree with Josh, why have a +2 HD channel when the only way you can get the HD channels is with the IQ2 PVR and therefore don’t need timeshift channels

  2. I can’t understand why Starpics couldn’t have just replaced Movie Extra, so they could have just had:

    * Movie One
    * Starpics
    * FMC
    * Movie Greats

    and had all 4 in HD (old movies look brilliant in HD if they’ve been re-done and cleaned) 😀
