Graham Norton now on TEN

TEN will premiere The Graham Norton Show on Saturdays from January 14.

TEN will premiere The Graham Norton Show, formerly an ABC acquisition, from 8:35pm Saturday January 14th.

It will air in between two movies, Ice Age (6:30pm) and Mercury Rising (9:35pm).

There should be 13 episodes remaining in this series with first guests likely to be Gerard Butler, Karen Gillan and Noel Gallagher. Also set for January are Andrea Riseborough, James D’Arcy and Madonna.

But will Norton connect with TEN’s audience and is he enough to salvage Saturday nights?

Fast-Tracked directly from the UK the irrepressible Graham Norton showcases his wickedly cheeky sense of humour and fast-paced interview show.

  1. I dont think is should be on Saturday night….who watches TV on a saturday night???

Graham Norton should be on a tuesday night or a sunday night, maybe after Its a knockout.
Graham is too funny to be put on a Saturday night

  2. On ABC the shows are only about a week old, if that, from their airing in the UK..in the ads for the show they are showing Lady Gaga…I think she was on in 2010 early 2011…so if they show that episode on Chanel 10 not only will it have ads but be a repeat….not a good move.

  3. Ha! It won’t last long on TEN. Not because of lack of quality. Because vanilla 7, Nine, TEN (in particular) are completely hopeless as broadcasting anything with any regularity or reliability. What a disappointment for Norton’s fans.

  4. wamdue says: @Jen13 Norton is on the BBC in the UK, no ad breaks

Thanks wamdue! – what a dill am I.

I thought there weren’t any ads but then the UK channel often has a couple of ad breaks… I guess I’m just so used to fast forwarding and not looking at ads.

  5. Dear Channel 10

Why? Just, why? Why do you think that by taking what would clearly work on a small channel that had actual care for their programming would equal ratings success?? Did you hope for a Top Gear style thing, where NBN did get good ratings, but lacked the sort of consistency to keep good ratings? Maybe you thought that, like Torchwood, this is clearly a new demographic that you can capitalise on? And so you’ll put all the love and care you need to put into it. You’ll promo it to death, by slightly misleading the audience. They won’t mind, of course, because they’re just so happy to see it. And what to do about the audience who don’t watch your movies? Well why not give it a flexible timeslot, to make sure that they watch your movies. I’m sure that they won’t go into Back To The Future induced fever dreams because you can’t be fecked to buy any other films. After a while, you’ll see that your master programming decisions don’t seem to work with the general public. This is clearly the fault of the general public and therefore you’ll hide it away, not as a mistake, oh no, because it did well on ABC2, so maybe we just need to work harder on it. And your solution will be to put it on at a new timeslot, for a new demographic. Because midnight is when all the cool people watch TV. And one day, after it’s failed, ABC2 might pick it up stealthily, and I will rejoice. And so will others. Because it’s another loss for the number 4 performing channel in Australia. Maybe it isn’t your programs that are the problem 10. Maybe it’s something else. And if you lose to SBS this year, well I don’t think any amount of documentaries about Hitler will be able to claw viewers over to your side.

    Yours, sincerely

Thomas Bowyer (a very loyal non-viewer)

  6. Because Chanel ten have no originality what so ever ie making reality TV or recreating shows from the eighties such as young talent time, it’s a knock out. They have to resource something that is doing well from good ol’ Aunty. But if any commercial TV station buys Doctor Who from ABC, I’ll be sooooo annoyed!

  7. I have two concerns…..one….are they going to snip bits from the show to fit in all the ads they have….will 15 minutes be enough….
And two….Graham and his guests can get very ‘blue’ often….and lotsa kiddies are still up at 8.30Pm at night….’specially Saturday nights….

  8. Philm, it’s funny that you mention Alan Carr’s talk show because ABC2 will be using it to replace Norton in his old timeslot from next week.

On another note, TEN are screening Norton much earlier than the two ABC channels ever did. But being inbetween movies will see it move all over the place.

  9. This is a big disappointment. I too thought it was perfectly placed on the ABC although it would have held its own on the primary channel. Eevn knowing bthis was comingit’s still a let down considering how 10 treat viewers theses days.
The ads will be annoying too for the two weeks it’s on at 8.30 and then perpetually shafted to differnt timeslots. Good on you 10.

  10. I’ve watched it on ABC2, and on the UK channel which has a couple of ad breaks to wind through – not too much of a bother!
But I think the main problem with 10 is not just the number of ad breaks and their duration, but that you’ll never know when it’s on or what time, as the commercial channels have no respect for their audiences and chop and change programs all the time.
With both ABC2 and the UK channel, you know their scheduling is reliable.
So I’ll not be watching 10 for Graham Norton or anything else!

  11. David, do you know if UKTV still have the rights to this show as well? They seemed to be about 6 months behind ABC1, I know it will still have ads on the UKTV version but i have a feeling it will have twice as many ads on channel 10

  12. People power saw Aussies switch off Top Gear when it swapped from SBS to 9. Seems BBC didn’t learn their lesson in choosing big bucks over the original channel so Graham fans let’s show them again.
