Kerri-Anne for Dancing with the Stars

TV irony. While Sonia Kruger is replacing her at Nine, Kerri-Anne is heading for Seven's Dancing with the Stars.

Kerri-Anne Kennerley is believed to be leaving the Nine Network to join Seven’s Dancing with the Stars.

Word that the veteran presenter was leaving was leaked by showbiz reporter Peter Ford on Twitter.

Kennerley is understood to have told Nine she was leaving yesterday, despite previous claims by the network that she would remain for future projects.

The Kerri-Anne morning programme dissipated in November, following rumblings about behind the scenes friction in the final year, the direction the show was headed, and a hastily-staged farewell show.

Of her show’s demise, she tactfully said, “I read it in the paper. But that’s alright …it’s not a big deal.

“Besides Midday I’ve had one of the best gigs in TV. Of the 9 years 8 have been fantastic.”

Ironically, Kennerley’s role has been replaced by Sonia Kruger, who quit Dancing with the Stars to join Nine. Kruger will be joined by performer David Campbell in a new-look Mornings show for Nine.

Kennerley’s role with Dancing will be for a maximum of three months, but walking from Nine likely means future projects at Seven may have also been floated.

In her most recent innings, Kennerley has been part of the Nine stable since 1995, but began on the children’s shows The Channel Niners and Everybody’s In at QTQ Brisbane in 1967.

  1. I found the article about Browne

The article reporting how Browne had changed

The article reporting he was behind the secret signing of Kruger

    So has he really changed?

  2. Wow. When she was at 9 she was a washed up lady but now she’s at 7 she suddenly has a lot to offer and should be on every show the network has.

The 7 fanboi’s are out in force.

I recall reading Gyngell saying Browne had learnt from the past when 9 sacked a few and upset everyone. Anyone remember that?

  3. Can’t see Sonia holding a show for very long, what were they thinking? Some of the things she says are so cringe-worthy………… wish they’d eliminate that idiot Todd on DWTS along with that woman; nasty pair

Wish KAK all the best, she’s a real trooper and an Australian tv host with class

  4. just let her be the fill in girl. let her fill in on Sunrise, The Morning Show, today Tonight. She is so multi- skilled. In america women of her age are highly valued. she has more than 20 years to catch up to Barbara walters.

  5. Maybe they are grooming her to be Australia’s Oprah? Wasn’t there talk a few years ago they were planning a Ricki Lake type show with someone who’s name escapes me now?

  6. Go, Kerri-Anne. go! Run like the wind. Seven appreciates your star quality. I think Seven should book her as a guest for the first show of The Morning Show for 2012. Watch Nine’s viewers defect to Seven.

  7. There’s no keeping Kerri-Anne down. She was always going to bounce back somehow and good luck for whatever Seven might have planned for her if there is more than just DWTS in the pipeline.

But just a minor suggestion for correction. Her current stint at Nine only dates back to hosting Mornings in 2002, her ’90s stint at Nine ended after Midday and her short-lived co-host role on What’s Cooking. She then returned to Channel Ten for a year or so for some fairly ordinary shows (e.g. Moment Of Truth and Greed) before going back to Nine to do Mornings.

Although the Herald Sun said she’d been at Nine for 44 years… I suppose she had if you ignore her years overseas, her stint on Ten’s The Restless Years and the mere 10-11 years as co-host of Good Morning Australia… on Channel Ten. 🙂

  8. “Of the 9 years 8 have been fantastic.”

Was that a dig at her last year of Mornings? If so, it’s so delicious I can’t even stand it. This woman belongs on TV…

  9. Kidding right??? Laughable!!! The lady should be put out to pasture!!! This casting decision signals the beginning of the end for Dancing With The Stars!!!! It all doom and gloom from here !!!

  10. I am so happy that KAK has left Nine. They don’t deserve her. I wish her well in her future projects at Seven, the number one Network in Australia 🙂

  11. Nine just love damaging their brand! It happens over and over again. Its almost a conspiracy to make the cannel bankrupt.

I am not sure about KAK in primetime but you never know. Mostly old people watch DWTS so i guess it would work.

  12. She will win this series, the public will be on her side and Channel 7 will make sure she’s in for as long as possible, especially if she has signed a deal with them for other projects.

  13. I dont blame Kerri Anne for leaving. Who would want to work for a network that doesnt have the decency to tell you they are replacing you. Especially how long she has been on 9.

Kerri Anne will be perfect for 7 because she can also fill in for Kylie when she is away on TMS. Her and Larry would be great together.

I hope she is on DWTS but as a contestant. I think she would be a good contestant and something the show needs. They have stopped putting on females who are actually known for somehting and just stuck on models. Kerri Anne will give it a bit more creditibility.

  14. If she is walking to Seven, then it’s a huge coup for them and a big blow to Nine.

Plus – I can actually see her doing DWTS. It may change the tone of the show slightly, but I think it would be for the better. 🙂

  15. Whoo Hoo, fantastic news. Kerrie anne in Prime time. About bloody time. Glam her up in the ball gowns, let her come down the stairs. Seven will win big time out of this. Hope this is true.
