  1. Something needs to change very soon in network and cable television delivery. Fans in the Internet world (and I’m talking about fan and TV sites, blogs, etc.) are generally unwilling to wait one to two years to watch seasons of a popular show. Everyone in the world should be able to access new shows at the same time for something like $19.95 a season.

  2. Kevin, you’re half wrong. Nine have first dibs on HBO programming through their Warner Brothers output deal (which is where Boardwalk Empire & Game of Thrones are from), but Mad Men is AMC. No-one here has signed outputs with AMC. None of the shows you mention would’ve been a “good fit” for GEM.

Btw, SBS has FTA rights to Boardwalk Empire to screen in about a year.

  3. Bella, I’ve been watching some of SBS One’s Tuesday night graveyard repeats of season one & I’ve found Mad Men just keeps on giving. It’s such a subtle show that I missed many of the little jokes & mannerisms the first time around, but now after a second viewing I get them. For me, I couldn’t care less how long it takes Mad Men to screen on FTA because it’s a masterpiece that will age well.

@kevmarl on Twitter, I sometimes wonder why Australians are the kings of selfishness & greed.

  4. Foxtel didn’t have first run rights to MM and to shows like Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones. Nine initially did, but stupidly onsold them to Foxtel. With MM, this was before GEM, which these shows would’ve been a good fit for.

  5. It bugs me that we’re over 2 years behind too but it’s not entirely SBS’s fault. Foxtel have first-run rights to this series and SBS has to wait for those rights to become available again. It’s the same with other shows such as Entourage and Dexter (on 11).

  6. According to IMDB, these episodes originally premièred in the US on the 16th of August 2009. And the industry wonders why Australians are the kings of piracy.
