Renewed: Portlandia

US sketch comedy, currently airing on ABC2, wins a new season.

US comedy series Portlandia has been renewed for a third season by IFC.

The comedy by Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein currently airs on ABC2 on Thursday nights.

Filmed and set in Portland, Oregon, the sketch show features a variety of eccentric characters, including Peter and Nance, an overly eco-conscious couple caught up in the organic and local food movement; Bryce and Lisa, an artsy, obsessive couple who find new trends to explore; and Toni and Candace, the formerly activist, self-involved shopkeepers of the feminist bookstore, “Women and Women First.”

It has also boasted guest stars including Kyle MacLachlan, Jeff Goldblum, Penny Marshall, Tim Robbins, Andy Samberg, Eddie Vedder, and Kristin Wiig.

  1. OK, it’s official I’m an idiot….disregard my tyrant about it not being on anymore – just REchecked the guide and it appears to be on at 10.30 on Thurs… still annoyed I missed it before though!

  2. I am really annoyed there wasn’t more coverage of the fact this was being aired on ABC2. I listen to a lot of “modern culture” type podcasts from the US and Canada and just assumed, if this was to be aired in Australia it would be on pay tv. I managed to catch the last (I think) of the series by pure accident. Cheated! Now there is some football show on at the time it aired before. I admire Auntie for putting on a more culturally diverse football show but really – isn’t there enough AFL football on tv? With winter approaching there will be no escape…..

  3. This is very good news, I’m really enjoying this show. One of the most original comedies from the US in a long time. Kyle MacLachlan’s appearances have been a particular treat.
