Airdate: I Can Change Your Mind About Climate

The volatile subject of Climate Change, believers vs. skeptics, gets the TV treatment this week on ABC1.

The volatile subject of Climate Change, believers vs. skeptics, gets the TV treatment this week as Anna Rose, co-founder of the Australian Youth Climate Coalition and Nick Minchin, former Liberal senator, embark on a global journey to try and convince one another of their beliefs.

I Can Change Your Mind About Climate airs at 8:30pm Thursday April 26 on ABC1.

This will be followed by a special Q & A debate on the subject of Climate Change directly afterwards at 9:30pm.

What better way to open up the discussion about climate change than to send two very passionate and intelligent Australians, with opposing views, on a mutual journey of discovery around the globe. Each has the chance to track down whomever they like to help aid their side of the ongoing climate change debate.

Premiering Thursday, April 26 at 8:30pm AEST on ABC1, I Can Change Your Mind About Climate sees Anna Rose, co-founder of the Australian Youth Climate Coalition and Nick Minchin, former Liberal senator and climate change challenger, set out on what is at times a very awkward and confrontational 65,000km trip – surprising each other with the viewpoints of a range of experts, scientists, journalists, politicians and bloggers.

From the farmlands of Moree, New South Wales to the lofty, volcanic heights of Hawaii to the lawns of the White House and Britain’s Houses of Parliament, I Can Change Your Mind About Climate is a compelling experiment about an issue on which Australians have never been more divided.

Politics vs science, hope vs despair, values vs data – the one-hour documentary I Can Change Your Mind About Climate premieres Thursday, April 26 at 8:30pm AEST, followed by the special – Q&A:The Climate Debate at 9:30pm AEST.

  1. Secret squirell… please read the interview he did on the ABC show landline, abc.net.au/landline/content/2006/s1844398.htm
According to Flannery the rivers would never flow again and the dams would never fill!!! Have a look at this … g-mwater.com.au/water-resources/storage-levels
Man made climate change is a lie, and the public is starting to wake up to it !!!

  2. stever, all depends on what you mean by pro science?? Science isnt always right, take Tim Flanery,( please take him, anywhere but here) the countrys leading scientist and a well know teller of fibs!!

  3. @Goatracer, scientist were not telling us we were “entering an Ice Age in the mid 70’s”, there are no scientific papers that say this at all, there are 2 news articles that say it with out any source
Facts: 6 papers from the 70’s said there was a cooling period (not ice age), 42 said there is anthropogenic climate change.

  4. Science clearly shows anthropogenic climate change is happening, media, politicians and corporations have simply muddied the waters as they did with tobacco and asbestos.

  5. @Goatracer “Crazy lefties” have 90% of the free press? How is that even remotely true/possible when most media in Australia is owned by News Limited?

However, everything else you have said indicates you are very familiar with News Limited.

  6. @ Kenny

It seems there has been someone that was able to get the required shots from Mannlicher-Carcano bolt-action rifle. His name is Michael Yardley. Here’s his website below; he has his own take on what may have happened. You might be sympathetic. He’s even tried the grassy knoll.

Ironically I agree with you on your last sentence.

  7. @Kenny mindlessly believing “Climate Change” is akin to some celestial event is exactly the same as believing in the single bullet theory and I am glad you made the connection.
Some of the comments on this are self effacing; “Climate Change” is a clever political stunt designed to generate and direct revenue.
The problem is that a seeming majority of those that comment on the subject do not understand the political and financial ramifications of the premise which is a lie.
We as a people do have to look after our environment and be a lot more frugal in our use of resources and I or any reasonable person needs to accept this we do not however need to give away a huge amount of our GDP or sovereignty.
Do not be conned by the crazy leftist politics that have been given a mandate on 90% of the free press the same scientists told us point blank we were entering an Ice Age in the mid 70’s.

  8. @A – 66 to 75 percent of Americans refuse to believe the Lone Gunman Theory. No rifleman has ever duplicated the shooting feat attributed to Lee Harvey Oswald, the alleged single assassin. There are various lone-gunman shooting scenarios floating around, but they all theorize that one gunman scored two hits out of three shots in 6 to 9 seconds while firing at a moving target from 60 feet up using a Mannlicher-Carcano bolt-action rifle—on the first and only attempt. In 1967 CBS News conducted a fairly realistic simulation involving eleven expert riflemen firing at a moving target sled from a 60-foot tower using a Carcano rifle. Not one of those expert riflemen scored two hits on his first attempt, and seven of them failed to do so on any attempt, even though they fired under easier conditions than those in which Oswald would have fired and even though they were allowed to fire nine practice rounds prior to the test.
As you say, our generation will soon die and the truth will never be known.
On climate change, I guess Nick and his Lib mates like “Climate change is crap Tony” know more than our most eminent scientists.

  9. Looks like they’re trying to emulate the success of Go Back to Where You Came From. (Not that I’m against it as such, these are important topics after all)

  10. Unless they repeat it I can’t watch.

On the issue: adults that love conspiracy theories more than evidence are unlikely to see sense. The ultimate example are the people refusing to believe Lee Harvey Oswald killed President John F. Kennedy. Children can grow up and maybe gain perspective. Adults rarely do. Society only changes with the older generation finally disappearing. That’s how the Catholic Church accepted the idea that the planets went around the Sun rather than the Earth. The new generation took over and had no problems with the concept.
