Australian Story catches up on the latest adventures of Australian inventor, Ric Richardson, who took on Microsoft in a legal tussle that hit headlines around the world.

Three years ago, when Australian Story last visited him in Byron Bay (pictured), Richardson’s company Uniloc, had received a damages payout of around $500 million. Little did Richardson know then that it would all be snatched away by a US court a few months later when an appeal judge overturned the jury’s decision. What followed was another odyssey of legal wrangling resulting in the capitulation of Microsoft.

“It’s the equivalent of having David and Goliath where they shook hands in the end, you know, not just chucking stones at each other for the next five years as we go to the Supreme Court … It was a fantastic result,” says Richardson in Australian Story.

Now Richardson has bounced back and he’s using his knowledge to help others while fending off some unwelcome attention from those around him.
