Bill Plympton animates Simpsons couch gag

Video: What happens when an Oscar-winning animator reimagines The Simpsons couch gag?

Oscar-winning animator Bill Plympton (Your Face) has turned his hand to the Simpsons couch gag, which completely reimagines the episode opener.

In “Beware My Cheating Bart” Homer grows up falling in love with his couch before meeting Marge.

Meanwhile in a response to silly media reports that Springfield is in Oregon, a blackboard gag has seen Bart writing “The true location of Springfield is in any state but yours.”

Oregon’s Springfield was actually just the inspiration for the town name.

  1. “Springfield was named after Springfield, Oregon,” Groening told Smithsonian magazine in its May issue. “The only reason is that when I was a kid, the TV show ‘Father Knows Best’ took place in the town of Springfield, and I was thrilled because I imagined that it was the town next to Portland, my hometown. When I grew up, I realized it was just a fictitious name. I also figured out that Springfield was one of the most common names for a city in the U.S. In anticipation of the success of the show, I thought, ‘This will be cool; everyone will think it’s their Springfield.’ And they do.”
