Final season for Damages looming

Updated: No hope of a sixth season as Damages final instalment airs in the US in July.

Corrected: Still one of my personal favourites, Damages upcoming fifth season will air in the US in July.

When Glenn Close and Rose Byrne signed for the FX show it was for six seasons, but any hope of a sixth season now out, reports Variety.

Damages switched from FX to DirecTV on a ‘rescue’ deal of two seasons of 10 episodes each.

In addition to the wonderful Glenn Close and Rose Byrne, the fifth installment will feature Ryan Phillippe, Victor Garber, Janet McTeer, John Hannah, Judd Hirsch, M. Emmett Walsh, William Sadler, Gbenga Akinnagbe and Jenna Elfman.

It will premiere in the US in July on DirecTV -and hopefully in Australia thereafter.

  1. yes MuchoTB, I too found season four very boring, hoping season five is as good as 1,2 and 3. the Glenn Close and Rose Byrne characters work so well together.

  2. haha, thanks David!

Re: season four, I personally found it quite dull. The whole Afghanistan/army backdrop was not as riveting as previous seasons, although the finale was very satisfying.

Season three is still my favourite of all that they’ve aired so far. Probably because of the casting of Martin Short. I’m also really looking forward to season five!

  3. I am waiting for Season 4 on DVD. I was so upset when I found that Ted Danson did appear in this season. Hope he is in season 5.
Rose Byrne deserves another best supporting actress. She should have won back in 2010!

  4. Hi David,

DirectTV were only ever doing the 2 Seasons.

They did Season 4 after FX dropped the program and Sony TV shopped it around.

I am half way through Season 4(which took a 3 year time jump story wise after season 3), and its still so impressive, it makes for a nice improvement with the DirectTV Episodes being edited advertisment free.

I can’t wait for season 5, with the Julian Assange inspired storyline but more so to see how the creators end the relationship with Ellen & Patty.

It will be interesting to see if Rose Byrne or Glen Close sign any development deals for more television or return to film.

    1. Yeah you’re both right. Even my previous stories have noted this. It seems the cast were signed for 6 seasons, hence the confusion and apologies. I have updated copy. Elephant stamps for u both.

  5. Ummm…what? I’m pretty sure the show was axed by FX at the end of the third season (when the Tom Shayes character was written out), and DirectTV picked it up for two seasons. Seasons four and five.

Very similar to how Friday Night Lights had three seasons on NBC and DirectTV picked it up for seasons 4 and 5.

There was never a sixth season of Damages in the mix.
