More Voice coming to Nine

Nine is already looking to a second season of The Voice, and why wouldn't they?

Nine is already looking to a second season of The Voice, and why wouldn’t they?

With 2.7m viewers it is their biggest hit since Underbelly. Media coverage and online chatter for the show has been blistering.

News.com.au reports insiders have confirmed another series could begin pre-production almost as soon as the live finale of series one airs in late June.

Informal discussions are believed to have begun with the judges, who have indicated they want to be a part of the show’s future.

Meanwhile, Producers have denied claims the audition process had been manipulated, confirming they didn’t even read CVs before hearing contestants.

“We had no control,” producer Julie Ward said. “All we did was deliver the singers and make sure they sang the type of song that would say who they were as an artist.”

The hit show returns next Monday as Battle Rounds begin with mentors Megan Washington for Team Keith, Darren Hayes for Team Delta, Ricki-lee Coulter for Team Seal and Benji Madden for brother Joel.

  1. @Ronnie, I would don’t think they would be able to as Big Brother returns in its time slot but if they were to it wouldn’t be until like 8:30 and 9:30 at night.

  2. Where is channel 9 getting all this money for all this intertinment shows and reality tv shows?? They do realise by the time Olympic gmes happens channel 9 is going to be short on the money left overs.. And when Big brother happens they have allredy spended all that rest overs that they had as a packup costing them million or 2 for the show and for the broadcasting of live event for big brother evictions. And yet they going on with this new show of Voice and many others.. Well believe it or not if a hannel like this goes over board with so many intertainment reality tv shows… they will end up realise they would had spend so much that some how channel 9 has to be force on the crisis… So i believe channel 9 needs to Slow down with all this intertainment reality tv shows..

I understand they doing this to edjust it so that channel 9 becomes a intertainment channel… well they allways have been but they dont need to add more reality programes.. They now that the big focus show about to come is big brother and that is going to cost alot of money for channel 9. So im saying channel 9 better have enough rest overs when it comes to money been well spent. Otherwise there wont be anough for big brother next year again. Think about it.

  3. I’ve paid more attention to the posts on these boards throughout the past two weeks with a lot of amusement.

It’s a fair statement to suggest most think Seven has lost their glory and power. If you follow trends, then you’ll know that anything is possible.

It was only a mere three months ago where Seven had one show used as strip programming to give them an unassailable lead. I’m referring to My Kitchen Rules. There were times where Seven had an even bigger audience share. Nine is in no position to gloat. While The Voice is drawing big numbers now and will do so until the conclusion of the first series, take this into consideration: 1- Audience interest declines after the Blind auditions. 2- The show is going to be on two nights as opposed to three. 3- Nine has nothing post-Olympics that they can rely on.

At the end of the year, everyone will remember the train wreck known as Excess Baggage which at this point is the biggest failure in a long time. Immaterial of the numbers “The Voice” receives, it won’t help Nine’s well-publicised financial problem which is above $3.6 billion.

  4. @TT By “milking” I mean they’ll probably launch a second season after the Olympics and use it to launch the rest of their sked. Not necessarily a criticism – just saying. They know how to work a hit.

  5. @Craig As this post says Nine are already in discussions for a second series. Nine will relentlessly milk the success of this – much as they’ve done with Underbelly over the years. Seven has been cruising along – winning the last 18 months pretty easily – and they have become a little too comfortable. Tim Worner has yet to put his stamp on the Network so the pressure is now on! Seven’s home cooked Australian drama in particular is very lame. The figures for Rafters wont recover from 1.2 m – not bad for these times, but as Rebecca Gibney said herself at the Logies – it’s in “decline” – so getting hammered by the Voice right now will really hurt.

  6. It’ll be interesting to see if they get the judges again. Seal’s Perth concert got changed to a different date and then that got cancelled due to The Voice.

I do watch it. But this show drags its pretty much one contestant then a commercial break.

  7. I’m proud to say I haven’t watch the show yet.

@Ronnie – I don’t think Seven’s schedule has cracked. Nine is still a one trick pony, they got lucky with The Voice but will that carry over once the show ends this year?

How long is it set to air?

  8. Note to Nine executives: see what happens when you commission a series that appeals to women and well as men, and that represents the multicultural face of Australia, just as Masterchef did 4 years ago? What is really interesting is how quickly Seven’s schedule has cracked.
