Nine settles ‘Choppergate’ case

Nine has settled a case with former Brisbane reporter Melissa Mallet, avoiding further details of 'Choppergate' becoming public.

Nine has settled a case with former Brisbane reporter Melissa Mallet who was sacked following the infamous ‘Choppergate’ scandal of 2011.

Mallet was dumped along with reporter Cameron Price following the revelation that their news reports, claiming they were near Beerwah, were faked. News director Lee Anderson also resigned.

But Mallet instigated legal proceedings with a Fair Work Australia hearing in January, seeking payment for loss of wages and the clearing of her name.

The Courier Mail reports lawyer John Laxon said the settlement had been reached late on Monday night.

The newspaper speculates that she will receive more than $200,000 avoiding further details becoming public.

Mallet insists that she did not know her location was being misrepresented through the superimposed “near Beerwah” tag.

Price, who agreed to an earlier settlement, has since gained work with SKY News in Sydney while Mallet was hired by Seven in Townsville.
