Karise Eden wins The Voice 2012

19 year old singer Karise Eden has won the first season of The Voice and wins a recording contract with Universal Music.

19 year old Central Coast singer Karise Eden has won the first season of The Voice.

Her unique voice, likened to a young Janis Joplin, won the audience votes to take home the title.

She impressed audiences from her very first audition as all four coaches turned their big red chairs. The win caps off an emotional ride for the singer who a year ago was living in a refuge.

“I am just so overwhelmed. If you had asked me a year ago if this is where I would be right now I would not have imagined it,” she said.

“To work with an amazing artist like Seal has been a dream come true. I have learnt so much that I will take through with me for the rest of my career.

“The public who voted for me, the support Australians have shown me, has made me realise my decision to come on this show was the right one and I am very grateful.”

Darren Percival came second, taking home a prize of $30,000.

Rachael Leahcar finished in third place winning $20,000.

Sarah de Bono landed in fourth place with $10,000.

Eden, who was the favourite to win, bags a recording contract with Universal Music Group, a Ford Focus Titanium and $100,000.

Her debut single, You Won’t Let Me, is available on iTunes and in stores on Thursday. Her debut album, My Journey, will be released on Tuesday, June 26th. Her cover of Hallelujah is already being used on promos of Nine’s Underbelly: Badness.

In a live finale the Nine talent show turned on musical duets between contestants and coaches Seal, Delta Goodrem, Joel Madden and Keith Urban.

The show also featured the return of Prinnie Stevens and Mahalia Barnes singing River Deep (Mountain High) -with a surprise appearance from Jimmy Barnes.

Former contestants also joined the finalists on stage for an opening number.

The Nine show has been a game-changer in Reality TV and delivered extraordinary numbers, as high as 2.8m viewers.

  1. i cant believe we had to sit through mahalia and prinnie (yes, even jimmy) when they clearly were flops.

we should have had the chance to see the latter 4 of the top 8 sing at least!

congratulations to karise, such a great feeling to see someone so deserving and talented win! i wish great things for her.

  2. Think of all the idol, x factor and AGT winners and then see of you can find one that has as much talent and individuality as Karise. Great series, great result and look forward to watching her become a world famous performer.

  3. Sorry if this sounds a little harsh but I don’t call Jimmy Barnes’ appearance a surprise. I say this not only because Mahalia performed during the show tonight but also because Jimmy seems to be the artist who performs the most on australian television. He even performed on Sunday Night. I’m surprised he hasn’t appeared as a performer on Ten Late News yet. Maybe I’m just harsh because people were making huge predictions about the surprise guest today (Nicole Kidman, Lady Gaga, John Farnham or one of the US Voice coaches) and for it to just be Jimmy Barnes again was a bit disappointing. Having said that, the performance was great and Jimmy was a good added a lot towards the end of the rematch.

  4. In terms of ‘The Voice’ … she really was the stand out and deserved the win.

on the other hand… I find the overall prize to be very weak. The record contract is great…. $100k seems a little small compared to other reality show prizes and the car? As if she’ll even get a chance to drive herself anywhere anytime soon. Rant over..
