Amina gone as MasterChef picks its Top 10

As MasterChef arrives at its Top 10 for 2012, the show loses one of its favourites in a double elimination.

Fan favourite Amina Elshafei left the MasterChef Kitchen last night in a double elimination with and Jules Pike.

Blue team Amina, Audra, Andy, Deb, Jules and Wade were tested before ruthless chef Marco Pierre White, with Audra, Deb and Wade ruled safe. Andy survived the final battle.

The exit of Amina is a particular loss to the show, having been full of personality and bringing great diversity to the cast.

On Twitter last night, many felt it should have been Deb going home.

Amina said: “I’m feeling pretty sad and disappointed to be leaving. I had imagined of making the top 5, but I guess that’s out of the question now. However, I am leaving with wonderful memories, experiences, new friendships and an incredible confidence boost. I may be leaving now and missing out on top ten or top five, but I know it just means that I will be able to start making my dreams come true”

Jules added: “Masterchef has changed my life because this is something that not many people get to experience, and the fact that I got to be a part of it, wow!”

Meanwhile the show has now arrived at its Top 10, who head off for a week in Italy from Sunday.

The ten are: Kylie, Mindy, Julia, Ben, Beau, Alice, Audra, Deb, Wade and Andy.

Meanwhile the Daily Telegraph reports the finale will air on a Wednesday night this year, tipped to be July 25th.

  1. It’s interesting how people say that contestants are being eliminated for any reason other than their cooking.
The fact that viewer favourites like Amina and Marion depart before we would like them too, would seem to suggest that the judging is quite above board.

  2. As much as I dislike Deb, she seems to be a good cook, which works in her favour under individual circumstances. It’s her personality/temprament that makes her a liability in a team setting. Despite the fact that she was arguably a major contributor to the team’s loss, it doesn’t look like she’ll be going home any time soon since the eliminations are individual challenges and no longer take into account the “worst performers” of the team challenge. (And it doesn’t hurt that she’s Gary’s pet either)

  3. Amina was one of the best cooks this season who was unfairly treated with her own immunity challenge also the fact that her entrees were better than the chef ‘s in the immunity challenge but could not make it to in the three top entrees on her day of her elimation makes you wonder how fair is masterchef after all? Amina we miss you and will be among many others who no longer wish to watch the show since your gone

  4. I’ll say it again: the elimination system must be overhauled. If someone is regularly having one of the top dishes (like Amina’s dishes always winning in immunity challenges) they should be gaining points towards protection.

It is especially unfair when someone faces elimination from team challenges where they are not necessarily responsible for failing. Everyone can have a bad day and the likelihood of one of the best cooks going home increases everytime they are put at elimination risk.

  5. Don’t think the finale will be that early. 8-15th of july in italy, prob 1 or 2 contestants going so leaves 8, another week with 2 eiliminations takes it to 22nd with 6 people so i would expect it to go another week atleast. Hopefully anyway.

  6. I was also shocked when Gary hugged Deb and told her he wanted her to stay last week. Favouritism much? Obviously, the producers want her kept in because she is a prickly, do-her-own-thing drama queen and is the antithesis of a team player, thereby adding drama to a show that is driven by its team work. In my opinion, she should have been one of the first eliminated. No way in hell should her bruschetta have beaten Amina’s much more complex fish entree.

  7. You can tell they wanan keep deb for some stupid reason! Maybe its for the older viewers but she should have gone weeks ago but here dishes just seem to be picked. I even saw gary say” deb i don’t want you to go” and give her a hug while she is fighting to stay in last week.

  8. It is all about personalties first, otherwise there would be no show(though UK Masterchef seem to do allright that way). How can Alic have so many different coloured glasses, they obviously have the wardrobe dept get them for her as well as for the rest as they could not have brought that many clothes for each different day.Deb is still in because she is emotional and the producers want people to watch to see where she blows a valve next time, there is no way her entree was better than Amina’s, but it is a Reality series, we all must remember that first, a cooking show it is next

  9. @pondle, so glad I’m not the only person who finds Audra annoying. How pathetic were her captaincy skills on Wednesday? Absolutely woeful performance. I’ve never warmed to her, she gets on my every last nerve, as does Alice, this season’s Dani. I am struggling to understand why Alice is still there, I can’t remember one remarkable dish she has cooked. Deb is worse than useless in team challenges, she’d be a liability in a commercial kitchen, but she thrives when she prepares food on her own. I don’t care for her at all. The male contestants this year have been nothing special, I predict they will all be eliminated soon.

  10. A big, fat boo and hiss re the elimination of Amina. She was my fave contestant by far, a great cook and a great personality and beautiful, sunny smile to go with it. She is a big loss to the show, though admittedly she had been losing momentum for a couple of weeks now. I adore Middle Eastern food and she really was a terrific advocate on the show for it. I wish her every success in the future,

I must say that this season of MC is streets ahead of last year’s offering, which was borderline unwatchable. Much better casting of contestants this year and the challenges have been handled so much better. I hope Season 3 remains a one-off aberration.

  11. How is Alice still there? Not only is she OTT, she hasn’t created many “wow” dishes. I’m very sad to see Amina go, she was wonderful. So I’m backing either Audra or Kylie to win. Both are great. I hope Deb goes Soon,

  12. So sad to see Amina out at this stage. She was worthy of the top 5 for sure, a great cook with loads of personality!

I cant see how she is out and there are so many duds left, even the lucky few with immunity pics!

Audra to win! And to those who were annoyed that she has a catering business, the woeful result should show you that she was never really a threat in that department, huh?

  13. Completely agree with the Twittermasses that Amina deserved to stay and Deb should have gone. However Deb can handle the pressure by herself so always survives eliminations. It’s when she has to work with anyone else that she’s completely useless.

  14. As always, as it gets closer to the final the overexposed, annoying people are the ones that remain. Mindy, Alice, Audra and Kylie all annoy me to no end. At least this season the cooks seem a bit better than last year.

  15. The fact that Amina was in Immunity challenges as support and usually had a winning dish but never got the benefit from that, and then that being up for elimination can be down to a single misstep by somebody else in a team, is one of the disappointing things about how Masterchef is structured.

But that’s the way the game is played, I guess.

Deb will be scorned. Alice won’t shut up. Julia will be emotionless. Amina will be missed. So it continues.

  16. Amina has been on shaky ground for some time as she was always facing elimination. She was ok but nothing special. Jules leaving was a bit of a shock. Still thats the way it goes
