More mysteries for Miss Fisher in new funding approvals

A second season for Miss Fisher is confirmed in funding approvals today plus a new telemovie and three new kids dramas.

A second season for Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries is amongst projects that have received funding from Screen Australia today plus Wentworth (Foxtel), Gallipoli (Nine) and new SBS drama Better Man -all three had already been announced.

The approvals also indicate a new telemovie for the ABC: Parer’s War is a biopic about World War II frontline cameraman Damien Parer and his efforts to reveal the truth. It will be produced by Pericles Film, written by Alison Nisselle, and directed by Matthew Saville.

There are also three live-action series for kids: Sam Fox for TEN, based on the books by Justin D’Ath, The Lost Boys from Matchbox Pictures for ABC, and The Worst Year of My Life – Again! a comedy-drama series also for the ABC.

“It’s great to support such a substantial slate of distinctive and compelling adult drama and children’s programs, delivering unique Australian storytelling at its best. Across both adult and children’s television, Screen Australia’s investment commitment will produce 66 hours of television and generate budgets of $73.6 million,” said Screen Australia CEO Ruth Harley.

“Screen Australia is committed to investing in a production slate that encourages new talent, develops successful screen practitioners and promotes ongoing achievement.”

TV Tonight tipped the second season for Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries in April.

  1. I’m astonished the dire Fisher programme got another run. It showed some promise but was let down by dodgy acting, an appalling script and bad directing – apart from that it was great. What I never can understand about Australian TV is why series have to be commissioned in such large chunks. Why not spread the budget over say 6 episodes and take the time and care to get it right?

  2. Miss Fisher is the best tv show ever to come out of this country….the extravagance and the amazing colors in the wardrobe …..the show is true to the roaring 20’s….

  3. I enjoyed Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries too.Cant wait for the second series.Ive always loved the genre of murder mysteries,so its great to see an australian show of that type.
