It’s been 44 years since an Australian won the Men’s 100m Freestyle, and it’s time for James Magnussen’s rivals to brace themselves. After qualifying for the final with the fastest time, the Port Macquarie Missile is back on track to take out the men’s blue riband event. Another medal hope is the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay as we aim to replicate our world record effort in Beijing when our girls broke the US domination of the event.
Meanwhile, Japan’s Kosuke Kitajima is aiming to win his 3rd consecutive gold medal in the 200m breaststroke and has a 2012 world best time of 2:08.00, just ahead of teammate Ryo Tateishi and Hungary’s Daniel Gyurta.

CYCLING: Road

Men’s individual time trial: Michael Rogers (final)
There’s great cycling action when the women’s and men’s time trials are staged at another iconic venue, Hampton Court Palace. Bradley Wiggins will be trying to restore English cycling pride on the road.

In repechage racing the women’s quad scull of Amy Clay, Pauline Frasca, Kerry Hore and Dana Faletic won a superb showdown with the USA to progress to the final on Day 5. The men’s eight added to the excellent day for Australia’s crews with a fourth place finish in their repechage to qualify. As well, we have our women’s pair of Kate Hornsey and Sarah Tait; we are a chance for a medal in all three.

BASKETBALL: Women’s Preliminary
Wednesday August 1 at 11.20pm AEST – live on LONDON 3
Australia v Brazil
The Opals renew their rivalry with Brazil, although their opposition’s flame has dimmed a little since they claimed consecutive bronze medals in 1996 and 2000. However they may be on the rise again so the Opals shouldn’t take this one for granted.

HOCKEY: Men’s Preliminary
Wednesday August 1 at 5.20pm AEST – live on LONDON 5
Australia v Spain
The Kookaburras and 5th ranked Spain should be a worthy contest, as the Australians look to step it up a notch after their opening demolition of South Africa.
