Matt Preston, George Calombaris and Gary Mehigan could be on the outer if MasterChef: The Professionals is greenlit.

Matt Preston, George Calombaris and Gary Mehigan could be on the outer if MasterChef: The Professionals is greenlit for the second half of 2013.

International food identities may host the series with Gordon Ramsay, Heston Blumenthal and Brit host Michel Roux Jnr are rumoured to be on Shine’s short list.

“They are chasing massive international names,” a source close to the production tells News Limited.

The series has been floated as a possibility before, but yet to eventuate.

“No decisions have been made about MasterChef for 2013,” a TEN spokesperson says.

“No decisions have been made about its format. Matt, George and Gary are very much still part of the MasterChef family.”

Preston, Colambaris and Mehigan will remain as judges for next year’s fifth series of MasterChef Australia, rumoured to be relocating to Melbourne.

Tomorrow night MasterChef: All Stars reaches its finale.

  1. Get Rid of Preston. His presence alone makes me thankful for Channel 11 and the Everybody Loves Raymond Alternative If I happen to be home and Masterchef is on.

  2. I actually detest the judges of the regular series who really irritate me with their hammy acting.

A professional series would be great. I’m a huge fan of the Britsh Professionals series.

However, I think it’s also overkill. The ratings won’t be great.

  3. They’d be crazy to mess with the judges – do we really want to see more blow-ins judging our television shows? For crying out loud, TEN have made so many mistakes in recent times that they’re almost rating in minus figures. I realise they don’t product M/C but they have overall responsibility for it.

I think the judging mix works very well, specially Gary with his quirky sense of humour, mischievous grin, and excellent presentation skills. He’s one of the best things about M/C. To start messing around bringing international people into it is just crazy. They’d lose me for sure, and I have been a devoted watcher from Day 1. Masterchef ain’t broke !!

(PS: I agree with the Junior version, those kids were just extraordinary).

  4. With George, Gary & Matt, ch10 have that rare chemistry between hosts that can not be bought or artificially created, a bit like the TG hosts. They would do well not to break them up

  5. i agree bring back junior it was fantastic seeing those kids cook. as for the new “hosts/judges” if it isn’t broken don’t fix it. they should know by now if you change something that doesn’t need change you will just piss of the viewers or in American Idol style your judging panel becomes a revolving door. leave masterchef alone or if you really want to destroy then just cancel it and run with junior. (and masterchef is really popular with the kids especially Matt Preston).

  6. the british professional series uses one of the judges and michel roux jr. they also use michels soux chef monica a lot.
they do a different format and it works really well

  7. If they replace our judges i can tell you right now i won’t be watching!!
One of the biggest reasons Mc has been successful is because of george, gary and matt! Any decision to remove them in future seasons is the most idiotic thing i have heard. Plus They would face one of the biggest backlashes against a channel it they thought of doing it.

  8. Yes, please. Although I fear having both the amateur and professional series might make the audience feel the amateur series isn’t that great if there is a huge disparity of skills.
