More than twelve months after his failed sketch show, Ben Elton is back with a new UK sitcom.

Ben Elton has returned to his love of writing with a new sitcom pilot for BBC One.
Elton, whose Live from Planet Earth failed spectacularly for Nine after a handful of episodes, has penned Slings & Arrows, a comedy set in a health and safety department at a local council. The characters are described as “a team of misfits who are hell bent on causing as much chaos as humanly possible.”
David Haig (The Thin Blue Line) will star as the department’s boss Gerald, “an “exasperated everyman”.
If the series is picked up, it will be Elton’s first British sitcom for seven years after the short-lived Blessed in 2005.
The pilot will be directed by The Vicar of Dibley‘s Dewi Humphreys.

Sounds like a UK version of Parks & Recreation.
Ben Elton has returned to his love of writing “. Just hope it’s improved considerably since his last effort at Nine.
“Elton’s first British sitcom for seven years after the short-lived Blessed in 2005”. Yes, well, repeating above.
Hopefully he’s learnt that simply dropping the word ‘vagina’ into the conversation does not, a comedy, make.
