Sherlock return tipped for late 2013

Filming of the UK thriller resumes in January.

The next three instalments of UK thriller Sherlock will be defined by the words ‘Rat’, ‘Wedding’ and ‘Bow’.

But speaking at the Edinburgh International Television Festival creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss would not confirm which of Conan Doyle’s original stories the three words referred to.

Filming for the third season will begin in January while exec producer Sue Vertue confirmed the new episodes will debut on UK television in the latter half of 2013, with August earmarked as a possible air date.

Digital Spy reports Andrew Scott, who was also in attendance at the show’s panel, refused to confirm if he would reprise his role as Moriarty.

“Moriarty is dead,” he smiled.

But isn’t that what we thought about Sherlock himself?

  1. Love articles about this series. Thank you. I hate to point it out but the British would call it the third series.

As for the three words. If I remember correctly Watson referred to once about a story involving a giant Sumatran rat or really Conan Doyle did as an off the cuff remark about adventures with Sherlock. Plus because of this I think Doctor Who had a giant rat show up in a Tom Baker story set in Victorian times and him dressed up like the classic version of Sherlock Holmes. I know the writers as Doctor Who and Sherlock Holmes fans would know this. I don’t know if it has anything at all about the story they will write.

Plus Watson did marry one of their clients although she died before Holmes came back. So that’s doubtful. I’ll note they didn’t mention the story of “The Empty House” where Holmes came back. I hope they do something with it.

Lastly “Bow” I do know there was a story of “His Last Bow”. It was about German spies and Holmes breaking it up. It was written in 1917 but set before The Great War (WWI) in 1914. Don’t know if that’s relevant either. Seems unlikely.

  2. Love this series. Great adaption into contemporary world and superb acting all round. A danger it could almost outdo itself with twists that make more of a story line than exists…but…I trust they will avoid that. Look forward to it.
