Big Brother: double standards or just poor editing?

What gives Big Brother? Benjamin & Sarah cop a strike for discussing nominations, but Ray doesn't?

“He’s done the math in his head and he’s trying to work out who voted for who…. and he knows that I’ve voted for him and given him the big vote,” Ray told Bradley and George last Thursday night.

And in discussing housemate Benjamin, Ray instantly broke one of the fundamental rules of Big Brother: “Nominations cannot be discussed with other Housemates.”

But viewers didn’t see any reprimand nor punishment.

Last night Benjamin and Sarah were discussing nominations and theorising about who may have voted for them. Neither acknowledged who they voted for in the vision that aired (it was presumably a longer conversation edited down).

But both were hauled into the Diary Room and given their first strike by Big Brother. Three strikes and they are evicted.

So how come Ray, who openly admitted who he voted for, didn’t cop a strike?

A Big Brother spokesperson told TV Tonight, “Over the last two weeks there have been several conversations in the House that have hit that grey area of ‘were they, won’t they’ revealing who they nominated or were intending to nominate. The conversation involving Ray was certainly in this category.

“As a result, all Housemates were called to the Diary Room late last week and read the riot act about nomination talk – Big Brother told them all he had heard several conversations that skated a very thin line and there was to be no more discussion about nominations.

“After nominations on Monday night, Benjamin and Sarah had a conversation in which they both clearly intimated who they thought had nominated them and who they nominated. Big Brother listened to the conversation and there was no doubt they had gone against his directive. For this reason the decision made was to give them both a strike.”

But Nine’s editing did not make this clear in the storytelling, leaving viewers confused about why one housemate’s rule break appeared to be overlooked, while another received a penalty.

Without Live feeds there was little opportunity for the group warning to be witnessed by the audience.

While some of the series such as the fake house, Yes / No challenge, Surly the fish and host Sonia Kruger are proving popular with fans, the editing of stories is still below par.

I understand and realise that. But i just still believe its becoming some what (less) big brother then what it really used to be. Too many editing making it look like its candid-camera show… Also they letting the housemates watch far too much (television) such as new series.. and yet this reality tv show call Big brother was complete design not to have the housemates watch anything that shows on television. Thats why its design not to have any of that. This bb in 2012 is feeling oddly but some what ok but same time not ok. issues comes from ch9 the way they deal with things.

  2. As for the ‘Asian kid’, bb also explained he was the champion state/nationalist in chess for his age group, again bit of light comedy because they were not going to win.

  3. Vos,

Maybe you skipped over things while watching, I thought the two things you talked about were explained enough to understand.

The horse was the housemates ‘component’ in the challenge with the ‘second house’ when they were doing the challenge. Seeing as there is no second house they did a bit of light comedy, I thought that was pretty self explanatory.

  4. First of all let me point out last nights show. I recorded it and had to watch it just today during lunch time. Because last night someone had to watch world war 2 on foxtel documents.

Okies getting that away from the last night issue. I just want to say last night show was dreadful design the editing. What was a horse doing on bb during short editing scenes.. who was that small little asian boy in the bb chair… all this is making it out big brother show is been less big brother as time goes by… from having fakes house 2 to fake housemates to even rediculours scenes from a brown horse to a small kid of a unknown person. All this editing last night made the show like it was then less then big brother traditional way… I just can’t imagine how channel 9 can really ruine big brother show. And notice how they are letting the housemates watch new series to even thier own selfs in the diary room. I thought big brother show was design for all housemates not to even watch television by all aspects…

Thats true but voting to save and evict are practically the same thing. It still makes it a competition between fans instead of housemates which is in my opinion, wrong.
