X-tra smiles for a hit show

Seven stars, judges and network faces were out in force on Thursday night for the official X Factor launch.

It sure helps to be launching a hit show.

And at the official launch for The X Factor at the Museum for Contemporary Art in Sydney last night there was a buzz in the air.

Celeb mentors introduced their acts to media for the first time.

In attendance were Seven CEO Tim Worner, Head of Programming Angus Ross, FremantleMedia CEO Ian Hogg plus Sunrise producer Michael Pell, Kerri-Anne Kennerley and Carmelo Pizzino, David Koch, George Houvardas, Lincoln Younes and Johnny Ruffo.

Seven’s Head of Production Brad Lyons was so upbeat he threatened to sing LA Woman before invited guests.

“It’s a brilliant production and crafted brilliantly. We believe one of the mantras is that we use the word ‘Discover.’ We like to discover new talent and we believe we have discovered the best bunch of new talent we have in Australia on any talent show,” he said.

“It will be a stadium-like feel on Monday and look and sound like a major concert.”

“You’re so hot Brad!” heckled a cheeky Mel B.

Each judge introduced their acts and talked up their respective ‘winnability.’

Ronan Keating’s boyband supergroup has been dubbed The Collective.

“We put it up on the web and had a lot of different names and the fans themselves picked it,” said Keating.

Host Luke Jacobz described the new set as “bigger, brighter, way better.”

Country singer Justin Standley has been contacted by his three children, in a story to be covered for Today Tonight.

Guests were divided over which act would win the series although a fair deal of chatter around the room was about youngest contestant, new-look Shiane Hawke. Nearly as much as the chatter about Network TEN.

Live shows begin 7:30pm Monday on Seven.

  1. @brit102: I’ve seen the first 2 episodes and my verdict is that Demi is awesome – perfect fit having someone so young on the panel – and Britney is not as useless as I was expecting her to be! I actually like her….. lol.

Shame to here that its off to a poor start ratings-wise. Hopefully things pick up as the season progresses. They’ve found some stellar talent already.

  2. Gosh…I hope they all give their lips a rest today from the mutual butt-kissing..and the goss about Ten.

There’s already a band called The Collective in the UK btw.

  3. I really think Seven should consider bringing back The Xtra Factor this year given how well it is rating and show it at 10:30pm on the main channel or staight after the show on 7mate.
