Former X Factor contestant hurt in stabbing incident

2010 X-Factor entrant, rapper Jelal Edmonds, is in a serious but stable condition following a stabbing incident in Sydney yesterday.

2010 X-Factor entrant rapper Jelal Edmonds (pictured left) is in a serious but stable condition at St Vincent’s Hospital following a stabbing incident near Club Eleven in Taylor Square yesterday.

Edmonds, 19, who performs under the name Lazy J was reportedly stabbed in the heart after trying to break up a fight on Oxford St following a launch party to celebrate the release of his forthcoming single.

The Daily Telegraph reports Edmonds and music partner Panapa Iafeta, known as Big Guy (pictured, right), were approached by three men about 2am, including a man who was kicked out of the club.

Iafeta, 20, said a brawl broke out after the launch at the club.

“There was yelling and screaming and punches being thrown,” he said.

“Jelal came over to help and then there were people getting hysterical and before I knew it the police arrived.

“I looked over and Jelal was standing near a pedestrian crossing. He just sank down like he was in a slow motion movie. Then he lay on his back. When I got to him his eyes just kind of closed.

“That’s when I saw he had this stab wound right near his heart.”

The duo first appeared on X Factor in 2010 but missed out on being part of the groups and returned in 2011 under the name Hype.

A St Vincent’s Hospital spokesman said Edmonds was in a critical condition when he was brought in but has improved to a serious but stable condition.

Two men, aged 21 and 22, were arrested and will appear in court on November 12th.
