Oops. The tweet Q&A had to censor.

Warning: not for the easily offended....

Q & A was forced to edit a tweet for its replay editions, after it slipped through the net and went to air Live last Monday night.

The tweet itself simply said “Mining is more important than democracy in Australia.”

Fairly harmless stuff.

But the Twitter ID was a lot worse….. the offensively worded smell_mike_hunt (it’s a lot worse when you say it out loud).

After various Twitter users brought the boo-boo to their attention, ABC opted to delete the ID for its replay editions (pictured).

An ABC spokesperson told TV Tonight, “Q&A obscured a twitter name for replay last week (for iview and broadcast replays ), it aired during the live program.”

The Hamster Wheel also had a bit of fun at Q&A‘s expense with a cheeky response in its own fake tweets last week.

David I can not completely agree with you on this, regarding the producers, whilst they may have the final say, isn’t it a bit like the chicken or the egg question?….Wouldn’t the producers only be following/reflecting the policies and agenda’s of their particular network and employer, and of course the ever present legal advisors?

  2. This is a bit rich for a TV network which showed on screen during Gruen Planet a mock-up of the Commonwealth Bank’s “Can’t” slogan re-imaged to say “C*NTS”.

At least the Q&A tweet didn’t spell out the word in large letters for all to see.

  3. Not intending to denegrate anybody who has been raised in surroundings enjoying high moral principles, and who holds life’s values in high esteem, and I do respect their values and lifestyle.

But something I have never really understood over the years, is how do they actually know if something is offensive and how do they know just what is a swear word?
