Renewed: The Almighty Johnsons

New Zealand comedy has won a last-minute reprieve for a third season, following a fan campaign.

New Zealand comedy The Almighty Johnsons has won a last-minute reprieve for a third season.

Funding agency NZ on Air has granted $NZ6.9 million towards a third season of the TV3 drama show, created by James Griffin and Rachel Lang (Outrageous Fortune).

Griffin had previously told nzherald.co.nz he was “gutted” that he wasn’t given time to wrap up the show’s loose ends which led to a petition and a ‘send a twig to TV3’ campaign, a reference to the mythical ‘tree of life’ from the show.

The series follows a family of Norse gods living in New Zealand and aired in Australia on TEN.

Filming is due to begin later this year.

  1. Fantastic news. I only found out it had been “axed” the day before this announcement, so I wasn’t disappointed for long.

Why isn’t Australian drama this inventive? More drama points for Ten I suppose.
