Aussies to attend Asian Animation Summit

Ten Australian animation production companies will present at the inaugural Asian Animation Summit in Kuala Lumpur.

Ten Australian animation production companies will present at the inaugural Asian Animation Summit (AAS) in Kuala Lumpur next month.

The AAS is is designed to facilitate the co-production and financing of projects with Asian partners and was initiated by the Director of ABC Television, Kim Dalton, and ABC’s Controller of Children’s TV, Tim Brooke-Hunt, and is supported by the government screen agencies of Malaysia (MDeC), South Korea (KOCCA), Singapore (MDA) and Australia (Screen Australia).

It will be attended by producers, broadcasters and distributors of animation for children, with 36 projects aimed at the pre-school and school-age audience across two categories – ‘Projects in Development’ and ‘Projects in Financing’.

Broadcasters from the Asian region attending the AAS include: Australia’s ABC TV; Malaysia’s MediaPrima; Astro; TV3; RTM and Al-Hijrah TV; Korea’s KBS, EBS and Tooniverse; and Singapore’s Mediacorp.

The Australian production companies are:

· Mememe Productions
· Lemonade Digital Productions
· Chocolate Liberation Front
· Sticky Pictures
· Planet 55 Studios
· Liquid Animation
· Beyond Screen Productions
· Flying Bark Productions
· RE Productions
· Ambience Entertainment.

Eight of the Australian projects are supported by ABC TV.

ABC3’s Tim Brooke-Hunt said “The AAS offers Australian animation producers a unique opportunity to engage with key international broadcasters, distributors and producers while discovering new programs that are seeking co-production partners.”

Kim Dalton, Director of ABC TV said “Asia is fast becoming the pre-eminent source of financing and production partnerships for Australian animation, and the AAS is designed to facilitate these partnerships through an annual event that highlights the best new projects emerging from our region.”

· Frank Dietz – Deputy Program Director/Head of Acquisitions and Co-Productions, Super RTL, Germany.
· Luca Milano – Head of Animation Production, RAI Fiction, Italy.
· Kim Wilson, Creative Head, Children’s and Youth, CBC, Canada.
· Nicole Keeb, Head of International Co-productions and Acquisitions, ZDF, Germany.

The event takes place on December 10 and 11.
