But what about George Negus?

In all the axings at TEN there is no clarity on the state of play regarding George Negus.

In all the axings at TEN there is no clarity on the state of play regarding George Negus.

Negus, of course, lost his show at the end of last year after TEN valiantly tried to revive serious current affairs at 6pm and then 6:30pm.

When his show ended TEN indicated he would be remaining as part of the network.

Since then he appeared sporadically with The Project and The Circle.

But things went very quiet after that headline-grabbing exchange on The Circle regarding Corp. Ben Roberts-Smith. If Negus has been seen since then it’s not exactly memorable.

In July TV Tonight asked TEN about his most recent appearances.

“George Negus is still under contract with Network TEN. He made appearances on The Circle and The Project earlier this year,” a spokesperson then said.

Today The Age asked if Negus was still signed to the network, and a spokeswoman said: “We do not discuss the details of our talent contracts publicly.”

According to the spokeswoman, the redundancy process is now finished.

  1. Negus was one of those who had some credibility in the television ‘news’ industry. Hence his gaff regarding CPL (not Corp.) Ben Roberts-Smith VC came as such a surprise. Had he made a half-decent apology, instead of the ‘lawyer drivel’ he and stynes issued, he might have got away with it, but the public outrage through social media was immediate and decisive.
I doubt any network will touch Negus (or stynes) with someone else’s barge pole.

  2. His Show was a dead loss anyway. You couldn’t convert All those of many years Simpson’s Viewers to watch George anyway no matter how much they tried.

  3. “We do not discuss the details of our talent contracts publicly.”

Ten has really taken the charisma bypass in dealing with media enquiries now haven’t they? Very blunt responses. Would a polite yes or no statement have been too much, or have they just not got around to telling George he’s next in the departure lounge.

I think Guano has a point though, Negus is probably best out of there anyway.

  4. Either they have forgotten about him, or they have plans for him in 2013. I’m thinking they forgot about him due to the lack of air time in the past six months.

  5. George is probably a classical example of an “Old Dog For A Hard Road” if he is still there, it probably means he has more on them, than they have on Him, possibly also proving, it pays to document everything, but his terrible gaff, also proves that it is best to not only have one ace up ones sleeve.
