CNN expands Asia Pacific coverage

More live coverage in Asia Pacific with Australian Andrew Stevens co-hosting a new CNN morning news show.

CNN is expanding its live programming in the Asia Pacific region which sees Australian Andrew Stevens (pictured) co-hosting a new morning news show.

CNN Newsroom, Live from Hong Kong, will air from 9am to 11am AEDT each weekday from today.

Co-hosts Andrew Stevens and Patricia Wu will cover the top stories from Asia Pacific and across the world, along with headlines across business, sport, weather, technology, entertainment and more.

Australian-born Stevens has been a Hong Kong-based anchor/correspondent with CNN for more than 13 years, while Patricia Wu is a newly appointed Hong Kong-based anchor/correspondent, having relocated from CNN’s New York studio to co-host the new Asia morning show.

There will also be a new primetime evening news show soon, CNN NewsCenter, with new full-time anchor, Monita Rajpals.

The announcement comes just weeks after CNN launched On China, the network’s first ever regular series focused on the country, hosted by Hong Kong-based Kristie Lu Stout.

Anna Coren also becomes international correspondent, having been a CNN anchor, and remains based in Hong Kong.

  1. And yet CNN is still broadcast in 4:3 cropped picture format. A total waste as the majority of CNN programming is filmed in 16:9 widescreen, resulting in 4 black bars surrounding all programming. It’s understandable that CCTV News (English) is still broadcast in 4:3 with China only in early stages of digital television conversion, but CNN and Bloomberg are some of the biggest news networks in the world and they are two of the three 4:3 news channels remaining on Foxtel/Austar.
