Nine set to announce The Taste

Nine is tipped to announce another food show, The Taste at its Upfronts this week.

2013 is shaping up as the year of the foodies with two seasons of MasterChef, plus My Kitchen Rules and The Great Australian Bake Off.

TV Tonight understands Nine will also announce The Taste at its Upfronts this week.

As previously noted, Nine picked up the format rights to ABC’s new cooking competition featuring Nigella Lawson and Anthony Bourdain.

Both TV chefs head up a panel of four judges who each mentor 4 chefs, by tasting just a spoonful of each cook’s creation.

Episodes feature a culinary “Theme of the Week”, such as “Comfort Food”, “The Art of the Sandwich” or “The Perfect Course” with a famous guest, a culinary expert whose own specialty is related to the week’s theme.

Other challenges include “The Team Taste” and “The Solo Taste”.

What isn’t yet clear is whether Nine will run the US series or a local version -or both.

TV Tonight has already flagged other Nine projects including another Underbelly based around Tony Mokbel and  Power Games: The Packer-Murdoch War.

Gallipoli (due for the 100th anniversary) and Return to Eden are also expected to feature in Nine’s launch this week. Both were announced by the network some time ago.

  1. Already don’t like the sound of The Great Australian Bake Off. Reminds me of Ch9’s ordinary The Great Aussie Cook Off with Vince Sorrenti which didn’t make it to prime time because it was so chaotic.

  2. Where is the good old simple talk chat show with a bit of music. This is what’s missing in TV. Plain old chat show. 9 should launch a day time Aussie TV variety show. Missing in action for too long.

  3. to many cooking shows people will get sick of them only one i will watch is masterchef dont know if i will like masterchef the professionals i would much rather see another junior masterchef the kids are better the the pros

  4. nd in 2014 there will be one cooking show all year, I hate how the networks do this, drive everybody crazy with a certain program so it doesnt rate then they all disappear

  5. Sounds like a cooking version of The X-Factor.

I’d rather watch the US version while there is a lull in cooking shows. I really don’t want the 7:30pm timeslot with My Kitchen Rules, some version of Masterchef and this show.
