Seven takes ratings week as finish line draws closer

Ratings: Just two weeks to go as everybody gets a reminder on how hard it can be to crack the magic million.

Last week the numbers showed signs of struggle, with no show topping a million viewers on Thursday. There was just one on Friday and three on both Wednesday and Saturday.

It’s undoubtedly a combination of Daylight Saving, fragmentation and fewer first-run episodes.

Seven can be grateful that The X Factor is still performing, with the network winning another week. Nine’s Hamish and Andy stepped in to fill a Big Brother void. ABC and TEN were locked in a tie by the end of Friday, but Saturday nudged the public broadcaster into third place once again.

Seven won all 5 metro cities and every night of the week except Sunday, which fell to Nine. ABC bettered TEN on Monday, Friday and Saturday.

The X Factor again topped the week with 1.54m / 1.53m. Seven’s other performers were Seven News (Sun: 1.2m, weeknights: 1.02m), The Force (1.17m), Winners and Losers (1.14m), Highway Patrol (1.13m), Sunday Night (1.03m), a repeat movie Quantum of Solace (1.00m) and Beauty and the Geek (977,000).

Hamish & Andy’s Caravan of Courage (1.35m) was best for Nine, then 60 Minutes (1.21m), Nine News (Sun: 1.21m, weeknights: 1.01m), The Big Bang Theory (973,000), ACA (910,000) and RBT (703,000).

A Modern Family repeat (811,000) proved to be TEN’s strongest show then Homeland (739,000 / 639,000), new Modern Family (717,000), Can of Worms (589,000), Jamie’s 15 Minute Meals (579,000) and TEN News (575,000).

The 2012 ratings year ends with Saturday December 1st.

  1. @sav001 – that explains last week not this week. (Although SVU was in the schedule last week with a description along the lines of “its so fast tracked we can’t tell you what the episode is about”)

  2. There won’t me much on Channel 9 in summer except cricket. But there will be lots of first run episodes on other channels plus repeats of stuff the audience didn’t watch in Sept and October.

    First FTA run episodes:

Seven: Once Upon A Time, Grim

ABC: Misfits S4, Dr Who Christmas Special, Young James Herriot, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Upstairs Downstairs, The Hour S2, Peep Show, Hell on Wheels S1

Ten: Homeland, Ben and Kate, The New Normal, Burn Notice, White Collar, Psych, Merlin, American Idol.

    SBS: Hunted

  3. @BradleyB, Ten didn’t have a new NCIS episode available to them because there was no new episode of NCIS in the US last week and SVU only returned in the US on Thursday, so I assume Ten wanted to have a week gap between episodes.

  4. Homeland has been amazing this season, I’m glad this week that the show increased in ratings.

Summer non ratings is going to be terrible…I wonder when the networks will release the summer schedules…Nein will probably have endless CSI and Embarrassing Bodies/Gypsy Weddings shite while Seven will litter their schedule with Air Crash Investigations and Criminal Minds…its almost like they intentionally throw all their worst bottom-of-the-barrel programs on air during summer. At least Ten will continue to fast-track a few series like Homeland and Merlin while the other networks just give up
