Airdate: Tour Down Under 2013

Nine has increased its coverage of the Tour Down Under following a viewer backlash in 2012.

Nine was criticised by fans in an online petition for not enough Live and HD broadcasting.

Now it is promising an additional ten hours of the Santos Tour Down Under Live, with the final two and a half hours of each of the first four stages on GEM.

Adelaide will take centre stage in world cycling with the 2013 Santos Tour Down Under showcased on the Nine Network from January 20, 2013.

Calling all the action from Adelaide with the encyclopaedic knowledge that has made him a sports broadcasting legend is Phil Liggett, joined by his long-time commentator partner, Paul Sherwen.

Coverage of the opening round of the UCI WorldTour will commence with the People’s Choice Classic on Sunday, January 20, followed by Stages 1-6 of the Santos Tour Down Under from Tuesday, January 22.

As the world’s best road cyclists fight it out on the streets of Adelaide, cycling fans will see more action Live and in HD on GEM in 2013. The Nine Network, which is broadcasting the event for the second time, will present an additional ten hours of the Santos Tour Down Under Live, showcasing the thrilling final two and a half hours of each of the first four stages on GEM.

To cap off an intense week of cycling, the entire final two stages of the 2013 Santos Tour Down Under will be broadcast Live on Channel Nine at 11.30am AEDT Saturday and 1.30pm AEDT Sunday, January 26-27.

During Stages 1-4 the Santos Tour Down Under will also be covered in Nine News updates, and a daily one-hour highlights package will go to air at 11.00pm on Channel Nine.

Wide World of Sports reporter Tim Gilbert will host the 2013 Santos Tour Down Under for the Nine Network.

Nine Network Head of Sport, Steve Crawley, said: “In 2013, the Nine Network will showcase an extra ten hours of the Santos Tour Down Under live and in HD on GEM, giving Australia’s road cycling fans the best of the action as the intense battle for the finish heats up.”

The Wide World of Sports website will provide complementary coverage of the 2013 Santos Tour Down Under, featuring live streaming from each stage, video highlights, interviews and features, the latest news and results, expert opinion and photo galleries from the race.

  1. i am happy that Nine are giving us more coverage of this event, after last years bad coverage.

    On another note – Andrew Voss (who is in the picture above) presented the Tour Down Under earlier this year. But there has been talk that he’s contract with Nine ends at the end of year, and looks like that he most likely won’t be returning in 2013. Is that true? I hope he stays on tv in some similar sporting roles he’s done on Nine.
