Farewell Ron Wilson

Ron Wilson presented his last bulletin with TEN News, after 34 years with the network.

Ron Wilson presented his last bulletin with TEN News yesterday, after 34 years with the network.

Wilson fought back tears as his final bulletin wrapped, with TEN staff on hand with a standing ovation and applause.

But wait…. he will be back on Monday with occasional updates.

  1. Watching Ron’s final bulletin was very sad. By the reaction of the crew and fellow presenters he was highly regarded at Ten. The emotion Sandra Sully showed and the manner in which she spoke demonstrated the respect Bill Woods was held in also. Difficult day for all at Ten. Feel not only for those who lost their jobs but also those who remain and are constantly wondering if they will be next.

Ten has made a major error sacking so much experience. Some of the younger reporters are borderline terrible and now lack mentors.

  2. Isn’t this the same Ron Wilson who made an hysterical attack on the Gay Mardi Gras during a bulletin and was forced to apologise? I’m surprised he was allowed to continue after that.

  3. What a legend. I hardly watched Nine News, so for me he made a bigger impact upon my life than Brian Henderson.

It’s good to see he’ll be seen on Ten for some time yet too. David, does he finish up in December or will he grace our screens on Ten for longer?

  4. Channel 10 lost the plot this year – guys like Ron Wilson should never be sacked, they should retire/leave on thier terms. If 10 thinks letting go of Wilson, Woods and others will increase thier viewing numbers, they are sadly mistaken. 10 needs to look more at guys like Tim Bailey if they want to sack people.

  5. I was actually being an ostrich and hoping that TEN had changed their mind about Ronnie…I had even started watching TEN again lately….now I am just royally ticked off!!!!!!!

  6. I managed to see it live. It was emotional. I know we keep on bagging Ten, but I have to have another grump. This was a terrible move. I think the Ten morning news is actually really good. It’s informative, relaxed and very enjoyable to watch. Most of that credit has to go to Ron Wilson. If you have to get rid of staff, don’t get rid of the ones with so much experience and loyalty.

Ron, I hope one of the other networks grab you and rub Ten’s nose right in it!

  7. as long as I can remember Ron Wilson has been in my life in some capacity, when I used to play on the floor as a toddler while mum had the news on in the background right up until now as I frantically get ready for work each day. A true and unique legend and no doubt a true gentleman. Ron thank you for your years of true professionalism and being often the first person whom I turned to to keep me in touch with the world. Channel Ten…I hope you are happy. One less viewer
