Rove LA: Dec 9

John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John both appear on Rove LA this Sunday night.

John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John both appear on Rove LA this Sunday night on FOX8.

The two have reunited after nearly 35 years to produce a special Christmas album titled “This Christmas”, which includes a brand-new duet, “I Think You Might Like It.”  Written by Grease songwriter John Farrar, the song is being touted as a “sequel” to “You’re the One That I Want,” recently named the best-selling duet in pop music history.

On Rove LA, John and Olivia discuss with fondness those early days when Grease was filmed –Olivia admits she was reluctant to play the pivotal role that shot her to stardom, and how her inability to perfect the American accent led to the producers rewriting the role, while John explains how he landed the role of Danny Zuko in the first place.

With an obviously close bond, the two talk about their motivation behind the album, and the fact that all proceeds go back to their respective charities – the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Center in Melbourne, which helps cancer victims; and the Jett Travolta Foundation, which combats children’s disabilities.

In an unusually serious moment on the talk show, Olivia speaks of her battle with cancer, and how she is now helping others in the same situation, while John touches on the death of his son Jett, and how he copes with his loss.

Lighter moments see ‘JT’ try to replicate the high note of “it’s electrifying”, while also giving his best “Australianism”, Olivia discussing those infamous skin tight pants, the pair teaching Rove and an audience member how to do the jive, and a flashback to the stars’ greatest looks over the course of their careers.

Sunday, December 9 at 7.30pm AEDT exclusive to FOX8.
